"She_is_a_mermaid" seems to have fallen off the face of the earth... it's been three weeks since send outs, and I will hope that nothing is wrong with her, but it leaves her very patient swap partner without a package! Could someone please be an awesome angel for this great craftster?
Name: ptarmic wumpus Likes: Cool sea animals - squid/octopus/cuttlefish/jellies/sea slugs/tropical fishes/eels; I have a small collection of stuffed animal crabs, lobsters and octopi 18th/19th century age of sail - cool ships and sea shanties and stuff geophysical fluid dynamics red, yellow, orange, green, brown (think "autumn") Dislikes: sharks, sea horses, cheesy-pirates (historical pirates are fine) beaches, nautical-like-little-boys-outfits pink, pastels; can't wear black, blue, or purple unless I want a zombie effect
A lot of people have sent me PMs or made comments about wanting to participate in the current sea swap (well, it's ended, but the gallery's up!) but the timing was off. Most of those people have said they hope there is another round -- I just want to say that I would love to organize a Round 2 of this in the future. Probably not until August though. I know this might be a jump start, but, it'll hopefully give everyone a heads up so they can participate next time I'll look forward to another awesome group of people !
I don't know the correct terminology for this, so please forgive me if I get it wrong!
I am looking for the symbol / character for "FOOD" in Japanese. I keep google searching it, but am only getting pictures of sushi and rice (way to go google), which is definitely not what I am after. Other than that word, the word "groceries" would be really helpful.
If anyone could link me to a place where I could get these words in Japanese, or if someone could maybe send me a picture of them, I would appreciate you beyond words!!! It is for a project I am making, but I'm stuck til I find 'em.
Swap name: Sea Swap! Sign-up date range: Monday May 8th - Monday May 19th Date to send item by: June 9th! This gives lots more time than my silly head had thought of before!
Limited to a certain number of people? (optional): Nope Non-U.S. participants allowed? Of course! All ages allowed? Or 18+? All ages; if you are under 17 though, please ask a parent first if it's okay that you're giving your info out for the swap!
Organizer will check feedback of all participants and assure that the swaps that they are in will not hinder their participation: Yes Organizer meets the 4 conditions for swapping and will make sure that every participant meets these conditions: Yes
Details & Rules of swap:
1A.Please note that this is not a beach swap but a sea swap. Beach themed items should really only be crafted for the smaller items or if you want to throw in other goodies -- I will be very disappointed to see a bunch of beach things as people's large gifts (think flip flops/jandals, a sand pail, towels, umbrellas, that kind of stuff). I'm not trying to sound like a pain, but it's called a sea swap for a reason! Think sea creatures, waves, reefs, sea vessels, sailor images, bold navy and white stripes, lighthouses on the sea, seagulls, sunken ships with treasure, seashells, anchors, seaweeds, etc etc. 1B.You will craft one (1) large sea themed item and two (2) to three (3) smaller items. You can feel free to add more to your swap package, bought or made, but those are the minimum of crafted items you must send. You have two weeks to create your package ladies & gentlemen, so please put the time, care, and effort into sending someone a gift you would like to see yourself get (by this, I mean QUALITY!)! 2.A DC# is required for this swap if you are sending withing your own country. If you are shipping internationally, it is not required. If you cannot spend the extra $.50 for a DC, please do not sign up. A DC# aids in tracking and locating packages, and really helps prevent flaking! Feedback will be given at the end of the swap, all at once. 3.You must communicate with me and your partner throughout this swap -- communication normally leads to happy craftsters. Bad communication WILL be noted in your feedback, as well as late sending. I will also hound you if you do not communicate - I will PM you many times, which will make me look like a pain, so I'll be trying to make a point of saying "hey! you! write back dangit!" If you send your package more than one week late, you will have negative feedback until you have sent your package. Once your package is received, you will have positive feedback but late noted in your profile. (If for any reason you can't send on time or need to pull out of this swap, please PM me ASAP so I can make other arrangements or let your partner know.)
Attn Newbies! You MUST read the swap info page if you want to participate as your first time. I will NOT answer questions about swapping in this thread or through PMs, sorry. I don't have the time and there is plenty of information already here if you look. The page is here: http://www.craftster.org/swapsinfo.html
If you want to participate, information to send to organizer:
Name of swap: Sea Swap Craftster username: Email address: Your real name: Mailing address: Would you be willing to ship to an address outside of the US?: Do you understand how swapping works (You must read over the swap info page if you want to participate in this and you are a newbie. I will NOT be answering questions such as "How does swapping work?" at all, sorry.)? Do you have daily access to a camera in order to photograph your received or sent package?
What kind of items do you craft / make? What kind of items do you think you would like to send? What kind of items would you like to receive? What items would you hate to receive? Favorite colors / Least favorite colors? Favorite themes for the sea? Least favorite themes for the sea? Clothing sizes / Jewelry sizes? Do you have any allergies? Extra stuff you'd like your partner to know?
*Please answer these questions with detail if possible. My theory is the more a person knows about their partner, the better the chances are for their partner to really adore what is being sent to them. Think of this as a way to make a new pal, get to know your partner, please!*
IF YOU WANT TO PARTICIPATE, REMEMBER TO SEND YOUR INFO TO ORGANIZER VIA PRIVATE MESSAGE AND NOT TO REPLY WITH IT HERE.
Dates have been extended for this swap! I hope it can accomodate more people! Sea lovers, ocean lovers, fishermen (or fisherladies!), pirates and shipmates... this is the swap for you! Love the vast sprawling seven seas? Dream of warm summer days spent on the beach? Craft your dreams here!
I propose a sea swap / ocean swap -- all things sea themed: seagulls, whales, ships, anchors, bouys, beaches, waves, surfing, reefs, and more. I have lived on the water my entire life and adore everything about the ocean and want to share that love with other Craftsters!
I am willing to organize, but it might take me a couple of days to resond to this post as I will be on the road. I will respond promptly upon my return though.
A few days ago I sent out three packages at the post office and was charged what seemed like an ungodly amount compared to what I am normally charged, so I asked the woman what was up. She only gave me the option of Priority Mail or Parcel Post (in the US)... I thought "hey, whatever happened to First Class boxes?" but didn't fight her since she was mean looking and grumpy, paid my cash, and left. I checked the usps website and found that they've changed how you can send packages -- anything OVER 13oz is instantly deemed Priority Mail and you're no longer given the choice of First Class. I bet a lot of regular swappers have noticed this at their local post office, but if not, hopefully this'll help some people if they were wondering the same things as I was.
Anyway, I'll cut to the chase! I wish I had known the other day that there are now Priority Mail Flat Rate boxes and envelopes that are available at the post office near you or online at usps.com for free. You can shove any amount of stuff you want into these puppies, any weight, any size -- basically, if it fits, it ships. I got the postcard in the mail today talking about this and I bet everyone else in the States did, but who knows. Here are the prices, they sound like a good deal to me, especially the envelope.
Flat Rate Box: $8.10 Flat Rate Envelope: $4.05
Hope this isn't too much off the swapping discussion, but I hope that it'll help spread the word so other Craftsters can save some dough next time they send something
Perhaps this has been asked in the past, but I couldn't locate the post if this has already been in question.
I'm dying (oh, har har) to dye! Trouble is, I'm not sure which flavors of Kool Aid yield which colors. Does anyone have information on this? I'm guessing lemon-lime makes a yellow or green color, but what could I use to make a nice peach color, or a tan? (I'm hoping to eventually make a cream, sky blue, and soft tan mix, so any insider tips on those colors in particular would be amaaaaaaaaazing!) Since I know there's tons of different flavors out there this could be a long shot, but anyone with info who could share would be greatly appreciated!
I've spent the last hour here on C-ster drooling (why isn't there a smiley that drools?) over all the ATC galleries. This is probably going to be my new obsession. Since I am now officially hooked, how would everyone feel about throwing another ATC swap?
I'm thinking of themes such as - you pick your favorite! (this leaves you in control of what you'd like to make overall) - your favorite song lyrics
I'm open to hearing all suggestions or ideas for other themes. I'd be glad to organize this if enough people were willing to participate
