1  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Help with "Afternoon Tea Fingerless Gloves" ? on: December 21, 2011 12:36:02 PM
Hello fellow craftsters! I'm in the process of making the famous "Afternoon Tea Fingerless Gloves" and was wondering if I could get some help with instructions? My grandma taught me to crochet but unfortunetly doesn't know how to read a pattern so I've had to teach myself that bit.

Row 10: Ch 2, work Stacked Arches patt in first 5 ch-5 loops, over next join between 2 arches work (3 dc, ch5, 3 dc)

It's the second part I'm confused about. where do I put the 3 dc, ch5, 3 dc?

I tried looking for pictures and couldn't find any helpful ones.

Thanks in advance for your help  Smiley

I love this! Especially the yarn you chose. Definitely on my "to-hook" list.

Beautiful colors! I'm making a 9-point ripple and have the same problem with one of the points.

Thanks Susie! I tried learning to knit before I learned to crochet and I just couldn't get the hang of it. I do like the knitted scarves better, though!

I actually think the colors you picked out work perfectly.

Thanks! The goldish yellow was pretty tough, especially since I would have preferred to work with something a little softer than Vanna's Choice. But everything else was bright sunflower yellow, which wouldn't have worked nearly as well in my opinion.

Thanks guys Smiley

Reese is a great dog, but she has "seperation anxiety" (according to my mom) and likes to chew up brand new balls of yarn, lol. I lost two of my yellow during this project to her!

Oh I wish I had your talent! I need a hook roll and this one is just...amazing.

I really need to stop looking at this board...everytime I do I want to drop everything I'm working on and make ami's! He is too adorable, and a felted fez would be perfect!
9  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / My friend asked for a Gryffindor Scarf for her birthday... on: April 25, 2011 06:54:26 PM
...And this is what I came up with! The two of us are going to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter in July and she asked me to make her a Gryffindor Scarf to wear around the park. Why she would want to wear a scarf in Florida in July is beyond me, but that's what she wanted!

I used Vanna's Choice in Cranberry & Mustard because it was the only satisfactory goldish-yellow I could find. I used Half-Double Crochet, chained 40 and did 15 rows of each color, in case you were wondering Smiley

This is one of my dogs, Reese, modeling before I wove in all the tails. She wouldn't model the finished scarf, of course!

Completed!

All laid out, before I added the fringe.

A couple of the stripes are a bit bulge-y around the edges, but I'm still new to crocheting and you can't really tell unless it's all laid out and you're looking closely. I'm making a Ravenclaw trapped bar scarf for myself soon, although I definitely won't be wearing it in Florida!

Thanks for looking!
10  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Spring-y Camera Strap on: April 15, 2011 11:42:08 AM
I lost my camera strap a while back (no big loss, it was just the ugly black nylon kind) and decided today would be a good day to make a new one! I used Caron Party Yarn and basically did two rows of HDC with an I hook and added a flower detail using this pattern: http://www.crochetspot.com/crochet-pattern-simple-six-petal-flower/

And a close up of the flower:

The acrylic is really lightweight and soft, and the strap is a great length. Thanks for looking!
