1  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Re: Crazy 'bout wallets TUTE...FINALLY! on: May 04, 2011 11:41:20 AM
Okay so I suck at measurements - if I wanted to make this without the zippered coin pocket and instead make that side just a slot for bills - what would the measurement be for the pieces I'd need to cut?

Thank you!

I'm checking out u-handbag right now.
3  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / My attempt at the Jordy bag on: April 10, 2011 12:27:42 PM
I picked up some shirts at the base thrift store and decided to try making a tote out of them. It's a little floppy, but I only have lightweight interfacing. I really need to get something else to make bags stiffer/sturdier, suggestions? I also need to be able to buy it online using Paypal.

Anyways - here's my bag. I'm going to use it as my beach tote since it's so roomy inside.

4  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Quilted wallet - I'm sewing obsessed on: April 05, 2011 09:40:48 PM
This is my 4th sewing project and my last for a while because I'm about out of fabric. I really need to order some online.

I used That Darn Kat's tutorial http://darnkat.wordpress.com/quilted-fabric-wallet-tutorial/. It took me a long time to make this, but I'm pretty happy with the result. I used US Navy NWU fabric and a black and white print.

I couldn't really figure out a good spacing for the snap closure, so it's a little taller than I'd like when it's closed. The next time I make one of these I'll figure it out.

Thank you Smiley

Right now I'm struggling with cutting the fabric straight and making the measurements more accurate. I have a self healing mat and a rotary cutter on the way to me though, so I hope that will help!

I loooove the military bag! My hubby is in the Marine Corps and I have a diaper bag made out of his cammies. You did a great job!!

Yeah I have a couple of things that someone made for me that are out of my hubbys uniforms, but I decided it was best to learn how to make them on my own rather than spend $60-70 on it somewhere else.
7  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Tampon roll on: April 04, 2011 05:30:49 PM
I've been browsing this section of the site for a while looking for small projects to do so I can learn my way around the sewing machine. I came across this tutorial for a tampon cozy and decided to try it  http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=281346.0

I don't have much fabric right now, so pretty much none of the patterns coordinate with each other, so I just used a single pattern. I used a pony tail holder in place of using a snap/button since it was all I had.

Those are pretty COOl!!! Cool I love how you made the purse out of old uniforms great job!! I love your business card wallet too, love the colors.
To line your bag, just make another bag like you did & put the linging bag into the outside bag wrong sides together & fold over the top 1/4" to 1/2 " of the lining, pin all around the top then sew by machine or by hand. It should work, if you want a pocket put it on before you put the linging together. Hope that helps. Good luck & would love to see the next ones you make. If you need more help just ask.    Roll Eyes
Thanks for the advice! I think I'm going to pull the handles off tomorrow and try to properly line it.

Thank you! I made the wallet from a couple of fat quarter scraps I had laying around.

My friend just snatched all of her husband's old uniforms that he doesn't wear anymore and is going to let me practice making more bags with them. Now if only I could figure out how to line the pants bags lol
