1  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Cthulhu plushie on: February 13, 2007 11:02:43 AM
Ok. So my roommate bought her boyfriend a 70 dollar wireless computer mouse for valentine's day. She said she didn't think it could get any dorkier than that...but I proved her wrong. I made my boyfriend a Cthulhu plushie.

I am not a stuffed animal maker. usually I stick to clothes. So this was a bit of a challenge for me. But I'm mostly proud of how it turned out:

2  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Nintendo DS case on: February 12, 2007 09:44:42 PM
So...I haven't bought anything for myself in a while, and I decided that a pink DS was just the right gift! However, once I bought the thing, I didn't have any money for a case. No worries! I am crafty! I'll just make my own!

Well, lucky for me I had some pink knit jersey fabric around and lots of carboard boxes. (My cats love playing in boxes, so i keep them around. In fact, they gave me dirty looks while I cut this one up.) I also just bought the cute cherry buttons on Friday. these plus my sewing machine and a little sobo glue gave me:

here are two pics of the inside...one with the ds, the other without.
3  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / my restoration pirate dress. on: December 15, 2005 07:10:17 PM
so, about four years ago i was making a restoration style jacket for a show at my high school. one day i go in the costume shop and find that someone has cut up one of my pieces. i guess someone really didn't like me, cause i found all the cut up pieces and i could place them back together like a puzzle. i was able to keep the lining pieces and use different material for the outside to finish the jacket. well, i kept the old pieces and i figured it was about time i did something with them. so i turned this men's jacket into what i like to call my restoration pirate dress.

i cut off the sleeve bottoms and gathered them up a bit. the blue material is left over from a friend's halloween costume a few years ago. she went as alice in wonderland, and we bought a tacky 80's bride's maid dress and cut it short.

oh man. it took me forever to figure out the darts on the front. the whole left piece there has been put back together. that was the piece that was all cut up. plus it was cut for a man with a much longer torso than me. i had to move the armholes down and cut a lot off the top.

the piece that went missing after the cut was the strip of blue lace on the right front piece. i had to kind of invent that little blue thing to cover my boob.

anyway. i'm really pleased with how it came out. it looks really good as just a shirt worn over jeans as well. i'm not quite done with it. i want to add a few more snaps to keep it shut, and i haven't finished all the edges along the bottom. also, i have more of that blue material, and i'd like to make a skirt/petticoat to go underneath it. there all four massive slits in this thing, and i don't want anything to fall out or be revealed when i were this.

so, if you're ever walking around chicago and you see a girl dressed as a pirate, stop over and say hello.
4  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / memory quilt. (photo heavy) on: April 17, 2005 04:25:23 PM
ok. technically this is a duvet cover, but i had NO clue where to put this. i made this last spring break, and i took it to college with me.
it's made out of tee shirts, fabric samples, and design projects. the shirts all have meaning, but i never wore them. the fabrics are swatches and left overs from costumes i designed and made for my high school theatre, and the projects (the orage and white swirly thing is one) were from my costume construction class. also, there are bits of fabric my friends wrote me notes on details:
the yellow blanket on the bottom is one my mom had when she was in college. the down blanket goes on the inside, and there are buttons on the bottom to close it.
5  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / 2-d self portraits. on: April 17, 2005 03:55:06 PM
so my friend and i got the itch to go up to the art store. i bought three 4" x 4" canvas for a buck each (i'm so cheap. i hate being cheap when it comes to art supplies.) and a tube of black and white acyrlic. i photoshoped up three photos of myself from different ages: (baby, eight, and now) and then painted them on the canvas.
sent them home to my mom as a early mother's day present.
6  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / my no sew "wildlife guardians" halter. on: April 17, 2005 03:45:35 PM
so spring has hit, and i have way to many tees. what do i do? go thrifting. picked up this
really awesome tee for a dollar and change. i really liked the drawing, and the fact that it says "wildlife guardians" on it. but, alack it was a wee bit too big. i am so sad being so far away from my sewing machine. i'm up in chicago for college, while she sits unused in my bedroom in texas. i want to mod up my shirts, but i won't be back till june, and i'd miss all of spring! so i brush up on my no sew skills and do this with it:
love it! the only thing is that i can't wear a bra with it! so it's gonna end up a swimsuit cover shirt, or i'll wear a tank and bra under it for classes. so excited!
7  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / fuzy purple thing. on: April 11, 2005 09:38:26 AM
so, i was bored yesturday, and i decided to do something with the ball of awesome purple fuzy yarn i had. i only had one ball, so i couldn't do much (i have a wee bit left over still.) i made this, but i'm not sure that i like it.

any suggestions as to what i can do to it? thanks!
8  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / some simple scarves. on: April 04, 2005 09:32:02 AM
hey all. these are just some scarves that i knit this winter to keep myself warm through my first chicago winter.

i made the green one first (and a matching one for my mom,) then i made the blue one with the fringe. i really loved the yarn cause of the silver in it. the red fuzzy one i just finished. it is made with a simple drop stich pattern. i wanted it to be long but light.
9  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Scrapbooking: Completed Projects / reconstucted book scrapbook? on: March 11, 2005 08:18:41 AM
i wasn't sure if this would be best posted in the the reconstructed book section or the scrapbook section. it is first and foremost a scrapbook, so i'm puting it here.

i stole the idea from my friend to turn an odd spanish textbook i had into a scrapbook.
my scrapbook is fairly word heavy. i have notes and newspaper clippings, movie tickets and play programs. i'm still not done with it. i would like to go back and add more color.

this is that same page in my friend's text book scrapbook:

hope you guys enjoy!
10  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / stuffed sea creatures. on: March 10, 2005 04:24:11 PM
hi friends! this is my first post EVER, and i thought it should be to share these nifty guys with you.

sorry the picture quality is so bad. my friend ann and i got really bored one 4am in december and she made the felt octopus i like to call herman. here's a better picture:
he is made of green felt. the underside is rainbow lepard print. and the best part: the bow tie!

so then, i wanted to make one.
this is harold. he is a sea horse made out of some bright orange fabric i had.
yes, he does have a monocle.

and finally, this is moldy. i made him out of the left over green felt from herman at 4am. the next day we took them to ihop and the movies with us. yes, people do ask you why you have a seahorse and octopus in line with you to buy movie tickets.
