1  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Stay Cozy in the Winter Swap on: November 15, 2005 08:04:11 PM
It's getting to be winter soon, and I for one love to spoil myself in the season.  I like to bundle up in comfy soft things and eat tasty sweet things.  I have an idea for a swap that we can all send eachother things that provide comfort, warmth, and joy.  Examples would be:

mittens
gloves
ski hats
feet toasties
scarves
sweaters to keep our pets warm as well
hot chocolate
heck, chocolate period
tea
cookies
holiday music cds
scented candles
tissue covers (many of us are bound to get sick this winter)
etc...

Edit: I was thinking we could have sign ups around early Janurary and send by later that month.
2  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / BELLY DANCE SWAP Sign ups 11/1--11/6 (only 6 days!) Send by 12/5 on: November 01, 2005 01:26:08 PM
Hi all, it's that time we'd been waiting for:  The OFFICIAL BELLY DANCE SWAP

Here is the original idea thread: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=49989.0

Swap name: Belly Dance Swap
Craftster member who is organizing this swap: Flareon
Sign-up date range: 11-1-05 through 11-6-05
Date to send item by: 12-5-05

Limited to a certain number of people? (optional): No

Non-U.S. participants allowed? Yes

All ages allowed? Or 18+?  All ages

Organizer is aware of current list of "suspended traders"
list and will not allow those members to participate: YES

Organizer meets the 4 conditions for swapping and will make sure that every participant meets these conditions: YES

Details of swap: Okay folks, let's keep this one simple and fun, shall we?  We each craft for our partners one large item or several smaller items that involve belly dancing.  The philosophy behind this swap is COMMUNICATION.  Talk with your partner to see what kind of things would be appreciated.  If someone who's really into the dance form wants authentic-looking belly dance jewelry that's great, but if someone who's just into the stereotype wants a I Dream of Jeanie theme t-shirt, that's totally cool too.  I will try to match those together who are compatible.  Remember, we can take this as broadly as we like; belly dance is a diverse artform, so feel free to work with your own interpretations.

Here are some links for those who might be interests in educating themselves a bit about the dance:

3  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Beautiful Music CD Swap? on: September 18, 2005 08:18:09 PM
Hi,

We all have in our music collection certain songs that can only be described as "beautiful."  Whether it be mood music, world music, movie soundtrack, ethereal, or simply classical, there are music by which you can't help but be moved.  Examples would be the title track to Braveheart, Moonlight Sonata by Beethoven, and music by groups such as Dead Can Dance.

How about a swap where everyone burn a cd with 2 songs of their choosing and send it to me, upon which I will compile them together into a full album and mail them back to eveyone else?
4  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Belly Dance Swap?!? on: August 24, 2005 11:12:15 AM
I LOVE belly dancing.  Call it what you will, Oriental, Middle Eastern, but I do it and I dig it.  The music, the costume, the movements, this dance is such a sensual, beautiful, and empowering artform.

I know there are several dancers at Craftsters and I think a swap would be so fun and exciting.  I personally devote myself to the Egyptian and Tribal styles (Sohaila, Jillina, and Rachel Brice are my inspirations), but any style from Turkish cabaret to Persian folk should and will be included.

We can exchange things like:
mixed dance CDs
zill bags
costume accessories (beads, fringe, coins, Kuchi pendants, etc)
hip scarves
armlets/bracelets/anklets
bindiis
henna tattoos
incense
belly dance pins, buttons, bumper stickers
anything that inspires us to dance!

What do you all think?

Organizer meets the 4 conditions for swapping and will make sure that every participant meets these conditions: YES

Details of swap:
This swap involves crafting one major item OR several lesser items based on your partners' favorite flower(s).  A major item would be defined as something that takes a few hours to make, like a skirt or a purse.  Clothing, bags, jewelry, hair decorations, ephemera, art, trinkets, home decor, anything goes.  I'll leave it up to the participants to discuss with their partners any specific items they would like.  That way no one will be prelimited to make any specific item, and everyone can get to know their partners better.  I know everyone will be able to come up with some pretty gorgeous stuff.

7  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Favorite Flower Swap? on: July 05, 2005 11:20:55 AM
Hello all,

Everyone should have a favorite flower.  They are beautiful, enchanting, and are rich with history and imagination.  Most have myths or legends associated with them; ever wonder how the forget-me-not got its name?

Here is a webpage dedicated to flowers and some of their most facinating info.
http://www.angelfire.com/journal2/flowers/pcd10.html
It's a teensy bit slow, but  please be patient, as the contents are worth the wait.

These are just some ideas for inspiration:

embroidery
hair decorations
floral fabric clothing and bags (sarongs would be fantastic!)
paintings
jewelry
beading
cards
dried flower crafts
etc...

Of course we would each have our preferences mentioned for type of items desired.

What does everyone think?
8  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Johnny the Homicidal Maniac / Squee Swap? on: June 08, 2005 11:20:54 AM
I see that there was an Invader Zim swap, but none about the comics of Jhonen Vasquez, which in my mind are much more dark, intelligent, and funny.

I think it would be fun to do a swap involving them.  Anyone else?

9  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Please help me identify this yarn on: May 15, 2005 12:43:49 PM
I wish to take up knitting, and I found this scarf to be an inspiration to get started.  However, after an hour of searching online I cannot find this type of yarn anywhere.  Any suggestions would be so much appreciated.   Smiley

10  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Tatted and Beaded with Button Medallion on: March 11, 2005 09:28:58 PM
Yay, this is my first posting of a project.  I'm a tatter (lacemaker) and today I made a tatted beaded button medallion.  It doesn't even look like lace anymore with all the extra frills, but I thought it looked pretty.

Color is misrepresented (the beads are actually violet), but you can see the sparkle:

Here is a better show of the color:

I know this isn't much, but it's a start.  I'll post my somewhat more impressive projects when I get to them.  Thanks for looking!
