1  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Re: Bookmark Swap 4 on: November 28, 2005 02:29:24 PM
Girlwonder:
I'm still working my way through Speaker (about 1/3 into it).  I really enjoyed Ender's Game, but I have been told Speaker is even better.  I don't think I've read the "Bean" part yet unless you are referring to when he was a child in Ender's.  Anyway, I don't think it makes anyone "a dork" to be into sci-fi novels, quite the opposite, actually.  Wink

Back to the OT, here are the bookmarks I received from Melladh (top left), NVA (top right), and Goatgoddess (bottom left).  Please excuse the horrendous quality of the pic.  Something is wrong with my scanner that I just can't seem to fix. Angry

The tatted one from Melladh is actually a pretty sky blue and sparkly black, needless to say the pic does not do it justice.  The thread is absolutely tiny, which makes for a very delicate bookmark.

NVA sent me the awesome hand drawn bellydancer bookmark.  You can lift up her "skirt."   Grin

Goatgoddess did some research on Gothic Bellydance, and sent me a pic of Rachel Brice, one of my inspirations and favorite dancer ever.

I love all my bookmarks, thank you ladies!

Yes, of course!  I'm already using it to read Speaker for the Dead.  I love it.

And oops, I am sending TO Smellymel not the other way around.  Sorry.  Please disregard.    Embarrassed

Cool Zebra.  And that bunny is so darn cute.

I've received wonderful bookmarks from NVA and Goatgoddess, and I'm just waiting for one from Smellymel and then I'll post all together.
4  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: Ongoing Stuff I can Make Swap // Sign ups: ONGOING / SWAPPING STARTS NOW! on: November 18, 2005 08:28:14 AM
Actually, I deleted my post that followed Snacker's because I realized afterward that I wasn't offically approved yet.  I had the post up for only about 2 minutes before deleting...but you guys are quick.

Sorry for the glitch you guys.  Okay, Snacker's offers are still up!

Yes, definitely after the holiday rush.  I think that once the festivities of Christmas and the glitsy parties of New Years are over, it will be the middle of January, when it's drab and cold, and it would be super nice to look forward to receiving a colorful little "winter care package," don't ya think?   Smiley

How about this:

What if we organize a craft fundraiser?  We can all craft items to "sell" to fellow craftsters, with all proceeds going to hurricane victims.

Picture a scenario:

We all craft various things and post pictures with a description on a gallery specifically reserved for that purpose.

Then anyone who is interested in buying an item PMs the crafter of that item with a reasonable amount they would pay.

The crafter chooses to decline or accept the offer (and in cases of multiple offers takes the higher one) and after which the buyer would mail the crafter a check payable to the Red Cross

The crafter receives the check, confirms the amount, and in turn mails it to the Red Cross.  The crafter then mails the item to the buyer within 3 days.

It's a bit tricky sending the check twice, but that's the only feasible way to confirm that a donation has been made.  There are receipts of donations from the Red Cross, but those take up to 8 weeks to be delivered.  But by doing it this way, both the donator and the crafter can be sure that the correct amount will be donated to the correct recipient.

Anyone have other suggestions?

Ooh, I know an awesome kit I can put together:

A sushi making kit.  I can include non-perishable ingredients, top secret recipes and tips straight from sushi chefs I've known, tools and utensils, etc.

Okay I'm so in this swap.
8  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Stay Cozy in the Winter Swap on: November 15, 2005 08:04:11 PM
It's getting to be winter soon, and I for one love to spoil myself in the season.  I like to bundle up in comfy soft things and eat tasty sweet things.  I have an idea for a swap that we can all send eachother things that provide comfort, warmth, and joy.  Examples would be:

mittens
gloves
ski hats
feet toasties
scarves
sweaters to keep our pets warm as well
hot chocolate
heck, chocolate period
tea
cookies
holiday music cds
scented candles
tissue covers (many of us are bound to get sick this winter)
etc...

Edit: I was thinking we could have sign ups around early Janurary and send by later that month.

Would anyone be interested in learning the art of tatting?  I can provide for that.  I would like to try making soap or candles.

Oh yes!  The magnets.  I stuck them on my refridgerator right away to enjoy, and I forgot to include them in the pic.   Grin

Also, I haven't had any time to finish your "extra thing" but I hope to have it to you by end of next week.  Thanks again!
