2  CRAFTING FOR GOOD AND NOT EVIL / Crafty Charitable/Social Causes / Enchanted Makeovers on: July 25, 2014 12:23:00 PM
Hi y'all. I wanted to share an organization I just found that you might be interested in. Its called Enchanted Makeovers- "Transforming Shelters for Women and Children from Surviving to Thriving Spaces". They go in and makeover homeless shelters to make them a little more homey and more livable. You can find their website here: http://www.enchantedmakeovers.org/

They have a couple projects going on: doll adoption, time project, and capes for kids.

The Doll project "provides children in shelters with beautiful handmade dolls donated by crafters from around the globe."The project page is http://enchantedmakeovers.org/category_37/Doll-Adoption.htm and provides a couple pattern suggestions if you need one.

The Time Project is for knitted or crocheted lap blankets in specific colors but any patterns. You can read more about how this came about at http://enchantedmakeovers.org/category_35/The-Time-Project.htm

The story behind Capes for Kids is enough to bring you to tears. They are looking for capes to enocourage kids to hold on to hope and realize they are superheros. You can find the pattern and information at http://enchantedmakeovers.org/category_36/Capes-For-Kids.htm

I think this is a really sweet cause and I hope my fellow craftsters will join me in helping these women and children feel a little more human!

All donations should be sent to:

3  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / Talk About The Swap Process / Which do you prefer: on: July 10, 2014 09:03:50 AM
When you get a swap partner, would you rather have a partner who wants to micro-manage every part of your project (tells you exact colors, patterns, placement, etc) or a partner who is too open (tells you "just make me something awesome!")?

Do you find one more stressful/annoying than the other?

Note: this is not directed at any of my swap partners because y'all are awesome and everyone else is jealous.
4  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Stenciling: Completed Projects / Xwing T-Shirt on: July 06, 2014 10:51:54 AM
My boyfriend plays Xwing, a Star Wars miniature game. I made this shirt for him to wear when we go to tournaments and casual games with friends.

Front of the shirt on the upper right hand corner:

He plays for the rebel faction (I'm a die hard imperial player but he hasn't come to the dark side yet) and wanted the rebel symbol on the front.

Back of the shirt:

One of of the xwing ships is called the Hwk 290 and my boyfriend is known as the only one at the group who really knows how to fly the ship so I made him the "Hawk Master".

This is a picture of the actual HWK 290 model. I flipped this image and cut out the outline for the shirt.

The paint is actually a bright red in person. As you can see, the paint spread a little when I pulled the stencil up so I think next time I'll wait until the paint is completely dry before messing with the stencil. Also, I did the stencil in three separate pieces so the back kind of ended up in a kind of oval. But overall, I enjoyed my first experience with stenciling and my boyfriend likes his nerdy shirt. I'd love to hear everyone's opinion and/or suggestions!

6  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Harry Potter Favorites Swap on: June 07, 2014 09:19:42 AM
Hi everyone.

I've gone back a bit and haven't seen anything suggested but I was wondering if its time for a new Harry Potter Swap? I was thinking it'd be a revamp of the idea featured in the Back to Hogwarts series (where you picked your house, favorite shop, and favorite class). I was thinking you could provide your partner a list of say 10 of your Harry Potter favorites and they pick 3 of them to craft for!

Ex:
Favorite Shop: Flourish and Blotts
Favorite Character: Neville Longbottom
Favorite House: Hufflepuff
Favorite Class: Charms
Favorite Magical Creature: Niffler
Favorite Scene: After Harry turns the Resurrection Stone
Favorite Hogwarts Ghost: Peeves
Favorite Spell- Protego
etc. etc.

My partner would then be able to pick from my list to craft for me.
Ex:
Favorite Creature- Niffler. Craft- a charm bracelet because nifflers love shiny things
Favorite Ghost- Peeves. Craft- amigurumi Peeves doll
Favorite Spell- Protego. Craft- case to protect my laptop
etc.

The details can be ironed out later if anyone is interested in this idea?

Details of swap:
Ok so this is the pen pal round 3 swap! Who doesnt love receiving non-junk mail letters?? I know I love it and I never receive any mail at all. So lets swap for letters! Im basing most of this on the previous round here http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=379233.0. But basically youre going to fill out the beautiful questionnaire and Ill match you up with another beautiful amazing person and youre both going to write letters to each other! One person will write the first letter introducing herself, and I this I stole from the previous round, include at least three questions in your letter that you will answer. You have two weeks to write and send it out so you can make it thoughtful. Two and a half weeks after the first partners send out date the second partner is going to write a letter back answering the questions from the first partner and including their own that they will answer as well. A month and a week after the send out date for the last partner will be the send out date for the craft! Havent I mentioned the craft yet?  This is going to be a. 3 point swap! The letter counts as some of your points. If you write a 17 , very thoughtful letter then go ahead and count it as 2 of your points because you obviously spent more than two hours on it. Even if you do write 23 pages of letter you still need to craft at least a small item for your partner. (unless your partner says go ahead! You probably shouldnt write 17 or 23 pages to them. Thats probably the same as your life story which your glorious partner may not want to hear.  no offense. You can also go over in points if you and your partner both agree but make sure you both agree. We dont want any extraordinary awkwardness.
