1  Florida / Florida: Central / Re: Central Florida crafters!! where are you?? on: May 24, 2005 04:24:18 AM
Hi all!  I will be moving to Ocala at the end of June, from way up north as my name shows.  Anyways, do any of you know of any knitting groups in the area?  Since I know absolutely no one in the area, I think it would be a great way to get acquainted with those in the area.  Or, if you don't know of any, is anyone interested in starting a group for those north of Orlando?  Heck, why limit it to knitting?  I'm open to suggestions....

Thanks for the pattern!  They day I saw it I headed to the store to buy yarn.  I'm working on this now, only using a gold-hued thread with a tiny amt of shiny material worked in.  It looks so great!  I'll post pics and the thread I used when I'm done.  Thanks again for the pattern!

Ohmystars, what yarn did you use with this?  If I remember from a previous post, some people used Wool-Ease, but my yarn store was out.  Just wondering if acrylic would look okay...
4  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: Argh! I was spotted knitting! on: March 10, 2005 11:41:26 AM
Ha! I'm so happy I found this thread.  I am a (hopefully) soon to be Ph.D student (waiting on app results) in biology and all these theories make so much sense.  So many of my friends think it's weird I knit, because I'm not really into the artsy things they are, like poetry or philosophy.  But for me its the process of knitting, not necessarily the art of it, that makes it so addictive.

Speaking of being caught seen knitting, do any of you (ladies) get downright stares and comments from men?  Last week I was in an airport and this man came and sat next to me and just stared at me while I was knitting. I've also heard comments to the effect of "you're going to make a great wife".  I mean, I'm all for it if you're interested in what I'm doing and want to understand/learn, but it's getting to the point where I don't even want to knit in public anymore (the horror!) just to avoid the sleaze from people.  Sheesh!

Okay, so I understood the P2tog row, but for the life of me I can't figure out the first row "K1, Sl, K1, raise sl st with left-hand needle but do not drop it, k into back of raised st, drop from needle".  When you go to k into back of raised st, do you pass it over the knitted st and onto the left needle to knit it?  Argh! I want to make this bag so badly!

Thanks ohmystars!  I originally searched the posts but didn't find the info.  It makes so much sense now.  I can't wait to get started!
7  KNITTING / Projects from the Stitch 'N B**ch Books by Debbie Stoller / cabled newsboy hat on: March 09, 2005 04:46:59 PM
Hi everyone!  I am new to this site, but have a question about the cabled newsboy hat in S&B Nation.  Once you knit the main part of the hat and begin to shape the top it gives you a four row pattern, then says to "continue working as established, working one less stitch before/after decreases and maintaining cable".  I'm confused how to work one less stitch.  Does that mean add 2 k2tog each row before and after the original k2tog in the pattern?  I'm what you would call an "advanced beginner" and don't understand what this means.  Thanks for your help!
