11  Mini tote for little girl in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by amemm on: June 17, 2005 06:19:53 AM
Just finished this one up.. It's for my 5 year old niece. I tried to make it girly, but not too frilly for her.. We'll see if she likes it.

The bag..

The button flower...

And, the lining..

12  Smaller Olive corduroy tote in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by amemm on: June 04, 2005 11:07:05 AM
I made this tote for my son's teacher as an end of year gift.  I realized that I'd attached the straps too low on the bag, so I added buttons, and found it made a nice touch.  Hopefully she'll like it.

13  Fruity denim tote in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by amemm on: May 22, 2005 02:25:50 PM
I found denim on sale, and decided I'd make a bag (what's new).  I also fell in love with this flannel fruity fabric, AND got the orange gingham ribbon for something like 20 cents a yard.  Put it all together, and this is what you get.

The pictures look a bit more orange-y than they really are..

The tote (blurry photo - aaghh)

14  Quilted totebag w vintage print fabric in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by amemm on: May 16, 2005 03:58:58 PM
I spent all weekend making this (yes, I'm slow) and it turned out okay.  I modified the basic Jordy (again!), and took some elements of other bags I've seen out there, and ended up with this.

Since the inside and outside is essentially one piece - when I quilted it, I couldn't do a zipper pocket as well.  Machine sewing the corners on this sucker was MURDER.  There's probably a better way, but I haven't figured it out yet.

I didn't use anything in the photo to give an idea of size, but it is approximately 11X9 inches.

15  Re: super simple felt cell phone cozy! NOW with tutorial in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by amemm on: May 04, 2005 04:29:31 PM
Very cute!  Thanks for the tutorial.

I just made three of these as gifts for my son's teachers for Teacher Appreciation Week.   I did one myself, and he then drew some monsters on felt that I used.. No pinking shears (yet), but I think they turned out okay.

16  TUTORIAL: Magnetic Snaps in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by amemm on: April 29, 2005 04:15:50 PM
While this may be old-hat to a lot of people, it may be useful for anyone who isn't entirely comfortable with how to add in magnetic snaps.

When I first started, I didn't have a clue on how to install them, and my first few purses suffered..  The instructions I found didn't seem to make sense.

Finally, I figured out a way to attach them with just the snap (and not the frame) showing. Hopefully doing it this way will help prevent fabric rips from those super strong magnets.
Happy Crafting!

Lots of people have asked where to get the snaps..
Jo-Ann Fabrics, Hancock Fabrics, Wal-Mart, are some of the places that you can perhaps find within driving distance.
I bought a whole bunch from http://www.sarah1980.com. The price was very good, and the service and shipping are great.

17  Scalloped Toile Jordy in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by amemm on: April 22, 2005 10:51:22 AM
Although it's hard to tell, I made kind of a dip in the pattern, so it has somewhat of a scalloped edge.  The lining is a cloth napkin.  I also shortened the strap, so it ended up looking different than what the picture shows.

Finally, this is before I figured out how to use the magnetic snaps, and I ended up using a wooden button to close it.

18  Mini duffle, totes WITH zippered pockets! in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by amemm on: April 22, 2005 10:44:22 AM
Modified the Jordy again to make a couple of tote bags, and used SewPixie's excellent tutorial to put in some zippered pockets in the lining.

The mini duffle (which really isn't so mini) was based on Lia's tutorial, but I did it free hand, and had the lining and outside fabric all as one piece.

And the lining...

Khaki tote (It needs to be pressed, and the outside is kinda boring)

Finally the duffle which I zipped open to show the lining.

19  bag-o-mania (picture heavy). in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by amemm on: March 22, 2005 07:11:27 PM
Got a sewing machine a few weeks ago, and am now addicted to this site, and these bags.. Everyone is so very crafty - I'm impressed!

While I've got a long way to go, I've created some bags using Jordy's tutorial (with some minor modifications). They are all of corduroy, and I think that doesn't show up so well in the pictures.
