1  beaded Electric Mayhem bracelet in Beads: Completed Projects by calixita on: August 21, 2014 09:38:53 PM

This is a peyote bead pattern I came up with for a Jim Henson swap a while ago.  A friend of mine is both a big Muppets fan and a musician so I decided to make one for her birthday.

I received this lovely Rohan embroidery from WeeFreeRhie.  I'll be on the lookout for a suitable frame for it.

Thank you very much!

I haven't heard from my partner in a while but she should have received the rest of her Middle Earth package by now (one item accidentally got left out of the original box and was found behind a cushion on the couch!  oops!).  I'm going to post a photo because I quite enjoyed making them.  I was looking thru a book on shaped beadwork by Diane Fitzgerald when inspiration hit and voila!  Eye of Sauron earrings!

Here's the pic I took of the magnets (glass magnets are tricky!)

They came from The Lonely Mountain Barbershop to display famous dwarf hair (and beard) styles.   Cheesy
I'm sorry your package was incomplete, WeeFreeRhie!  I'm heading out soon so that I can pop into the Post Office before work.

Oooooo!  I really like that hoodie!!

So, I've been completely lame and sent late and totally let life get the better of me recently.  But my lovely partner sent me a lovely package which I unexpectedly received this evening.  (Augh!  It's much bigger than the one I sent!  Cue swap anxiety!)  I must apologize for the not-so-great photos but it's dark and I'm off tomorrow for a longer than expected vacation.  So if I don't post now, it'll be more than a week before I get the chance.

First up, an awesome mug!

On one side it says "Iocane" and on the other "Mmm Mmm Good".  This will be lovely for my morning tea!
Bookstorebabe claims she messed up the first tshirt so made a second but still sent me both.

I like them both!!  (sorry they're so wrinkled, I was in a rush!)  I'm throwing the "Storming the Castle" tshirt in my suitcase, wrinkles and all, because I can't wait to wear it!
a super cool Iocane necklace!

and one of her amazing circuit board pins because I admired them so!  Thank you!!  (again, sorry the picture's rather blurry!)

And the centerpiece (as it were) of the package!  A truly wonderful Princess Bride signpost, undoubtedly inspired by something similar on my pinterest page.  I absolutely love it!!

a little closer:

I didn't get shots of the jar of peanuts from Fezzik (made me laugh!) and a sweet bookmark that says "Skip to the end!".  I was so spoiled!

Thank you so much, bookstorebabe!!  I hope my package to you gets there rapidly!!

6  Bride of Frankenstein peyote bracelet in Beads: Completed Projects by calixita on: March 13, 2014 10:23:54 PM
This is a Bride of Frankenstein bracelet that I made for my partner in the recent Monster Swap.  It is done in 2 drop peyote stitch.  The design below the Bride is meant to be the mob of villagers marching through a cemetery from the original movie.  (or it could be a completely unrelated group of zombies if you aren't familiar with the film, according to a friend!   Smiley)

7  Fungi wreath in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by calixita on: March 10, 2014 12:34:31 AM
Winter is lasting forever here.  To remind myself that warmer seasons will follow, I made myself a mushroom wreath.

The mushrooms are made from felt and the moss is crocheted yarn over a dollar store wreath.  In several months, the real things will be growing in the woods!

9  Re: Monster Swap Round 5 (Sign Ups Closed - Send Outs 3/10/14) in ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED by calixita on: February 18, 2014 05:56:27 PM
Bunnies are adorable but I must admit, I've never personally met a cuddly one.   However, maybe I've been subconsciously affected by the killer bunny of Caerbannog of Monty Python fame!   Grin   Perhaps I should have added him to my monster list!

10  Re: OT Literary Thing and A Used Paperback Swap Gallery! in The Swap Gallery by calixita on: February 01, 2014 03:06:44 PM
I received my wonderful package from MamaTrader last night.  Get ready for some ooohing and awwwing!

She chose one of my favorite children's books, The Wind in the Willows.  I loved it as a child for Toad's adventures and the idea of running away to live by the river.  And I still love it as an adult for its beautiful language and wonderful characters.

MamaTrader recreated Rat's little home on the riverbank for me.

She even put a little light inside that flickers and gives the illusion of firelight!

The adorable house, dock and rowboat all sit on a page from the book.

I think the best word to describe it is enchanting!  I love all the little details from the moss roof to the tiny door that opens onto the wooden dock.  It will have an honored place on my children's lit bookshelf!
Thank you so much, MamaTrader!!

edit:  I was so caught up in my OTT that I forgot about the book she sent!  It's Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett.  It was on her favorites list and she believes I'll enjoy it because I love books that transport me to another world.  This one takes place in 12th century England and tells a story of "intrigue and power, revenge and betrayal."  I'm excited to read it!
