1  Re: Haunted dark forest swap gallery in The Swap Gallery by calixita on: December 03, 2014 05:25:47 PM
Posting photos directly off my iphone has clearly been a disaster!  They're all the same photo, won't go where I want them and they're sideways!  Please help!
I received the most fabulous package today!!!  (I must first apologize for the less than great photos and ask that my lovely partner post any better ones she has). The first thing to meet my eyes was Baba Yaga's house!
It is so wonderful, full of detail and texture, and there is a tiny electronic light inside that flickers!!  Even the inside is decorated with weird designs which adds to the spooky feel.  And the scaly feel of the legs - so great!
Then I spied the most wonderful bag!!!  ChameleonHound made it without a pattern (wow! Says the woman who can't sew!) and decorated the front with a very wise and beautiful owl using a combination of appliqu and embroidery!  I am so blown away!  I brought it in to work tonight to show it off.  I may have to ward off a theft attempt!
And the piece d'resistance is the cutest card.
I adore chipmunks and sort of challenged my partner to make them creepy. I laughed so hard when I pulled this card out!!  I'm thinking of framing it!

Thank you so so much,  ChameleonHound!!!!  You are so talented and I so appreciate all the thought and care that you put into my wonderful package!!!!

made for my partner in the "Mini 13 Days of Halloween" swap

My design combined as many Halloween tropes as possible!  Bats against a full moon, a spooky house in silhouette, creepy tree, gravestone, pumpkins, and an eerie black cat with glowing eyes!

4  Halloween tees in Stenciling: Completed Projects by calixita on: October 14, 2014 11:21:33 PM
I made some stenciled t shirts for my partner in the "Mini 13 Days of Halloween" swap:

I found a flowered t shirt in the local thrift store that I thought gave off a shabby chic Day of the Dead vibe and added a cool embracing skeleton couple stencil to it.  The stencil was rather a @*#%* to cut out but I liked the result.  Unfortunately I used a spray fabric paint and accidentally got some outside the stencil design itself.  I added some hearts to the area in an attempt to pass it off as intentional.   Grin
for the kids:

Her boys like zombies and vampires and the youngest loves pink!

Oh my goodness, happylittleclam!!  this is what that bottle looked like before I did such a horrible job wrapping it.

It was the first time I'd tried  such a thing and clearly it didn't transport well!  I'm so sorry!!  Does heat cause acrylic paint to melt off glass?  Ugh!

My amazing box of goodies from Smeddley was waiting for me when I got home from work last night!  Ready?   ....
upon opening the box, I see

Doctor Who dishcloths (plus an extra)!  Yay!!  I really needed these!  Now washing dishes will be much more fun with the Tardis!!  They're beautifully done.

next up:

an adorable Firefly mini hoop!!  Who doesn't love the scene of Wash playing with his dinosaurs?  It makes me smile every time I look at it!

and then:

a Monty Python tshirt!!  I love all Monty Python but after my partner questioned me, I realized that what I quote most often is "The Holy Grail", often confusing some of my very young student employees at work who sadly have never seen it.   Cheesy  I will wear the heck out of this shirt.  It's super soft too!  "What an eccentric performance."

but wait!

Another Monty Python shirt!!  I love it!  I really love the font!  I'm feeling spoiled now!  "I'll bite your legs off!!"

One more fabulous goodie awaits at the bottom of the box!

A Jayne Hat of my very own!!  Just in time for winter!  No action shot, I'm sorry to say, because allergies are making me all red and puffy eyed but the first thing I did of course was put it on and model for the cat!  He said it was cunning.   Grin

Thank you so so much, Smeddley!!!  Everything is so well made and amazing and perfect for me!!  I do love the Movie/TV swaps!!

I will plant my spooky flag in this spot!
My monstrous pile of Halloween goodies from Happylittleclam!!
The cat heartily approves of the black and white color scheme!

 DAY 1
my partner is trying to put me into a sugar coma!!  a delightful, delicious sugar coma!!

Homebaked brownies!! (started eating one of these right away as you can see!)  Coconut M&M bars!!  a little cauldron filled with pumpkin kisses!!  a bag of Snickers!!  Yummy, yummy, yummy!!

The sweetest earrings with my user name!  Thank you, Happylittleclam!  I love them!

Plus these skull and spiderweb cutouts as extras!!

I unwrapped a Xmas tin.  Christmas in October, huh?  Inside was an awesome graveyard scene!

It's going to look great on my mantle!

This is my intriguingly shaped day 3 package.  Love the Reaper character!

And underneath the tissue paper...

A fabulous Trick or Treat sign for the lawn!  Very cool!

And today I shared my delicious chocolate coconut M&M bars with my co-workers and student workers.  They were so good and much appreciated by all.  This is what the tray looked like once they were devoured.

Today I received a skull and bones ice tray (so cute!!) and a mysterious coffin.

Inside the coffin, 2 wonderful skull dishcloths!!  Yay!  I needed dishcloths and I LOVE these!!

A box full of treats!

2 awesome picture frames (love the monster claw one, especially!!), a cute boxing vampire pen, neat magnetic skull page markers, a yummy pumpkin candle and some skeletons to decorate with!

But the best part of the box was the lid!

this adorable cat skelly artwork!  made up of dots!  I really love it!!  I must find a proper display setting for it but for now it's sitting by the couch so that I can smile at it!

happylittleclam made me some amazing little felted bowls!!

I love felted things!  I hope you can make out the embroidered "Boo" and "Eek" on them (they were hard to photograph properly).  One is now by the front door to hold my keys and the other is reserved for my rings!  Thank you, happylittleclam!!
Also included was another tiny cauldron;  this one filled with mini Reese's cups (Yum!) and a ghost keychain that emits an eerie electronic squeal.  The noise really freaks the cat out and isn't that what Halloween is all about!   Cheesy

I was feeling under the weather yesterday so 2 days at once now!

to spookify my kitchen!

Halloween kitchen towels and potholders!  Cool!

I unwrapped an elegant black and white bouquet!
It looks perfect in the corner of my living room that I redecorated with the skull and spiderweb cutouts happylittleclam gave me!

Today I opened a box full of goodies!
First off some Peanuts chocolate bars (I love the Peanuts!) and awesome Day of the Dead face tattoos (temporary, of course   Grin).  These will be fun to wear for Halloween.  Now I just need to find the perfect Day of the Dead dress!

But the primary occupant of the box was the cutest felted black cat!

Look at that face!

He's simply darling!

DAY 10

Today I opened a pretty green mug and 2 sweet leaf plates!

I can't wait to enjoy my morning Chai and croissant with these!!

DAY 11
On this rainy, dreary day, I have discovered that it's spiderweb day!!!

I opened 3 adorable cobweb ornaments!!

I think I'm going to hang them in the kitchen!

a spiderweb with a creepy, extra large spider on it!!

And the most amazing felted slippers!!!

I love these so much!!!  Happylittleclam had asked me my shoe size eons ago but I never expected such coolness!  I believe I've already mentioned how much I love felted stuff!!  Thank you so much, happylittleclam!!

DAY 12

My very own Poe jewelry day!!!
(Boston recently put up a Poe statue near the spot where he was born in the city.  Even though Poe was always quite vehement about how he hated this city.    Smiley )

fabulous Edgar earrings!!!!!!!

and a wonderful, long poetry necklace!!!!!!!

The necklace is comprised of the entire poem which reads:

Thy soul shall find itself alone
'Mid dark thoughts of the grey tomb-stone --
Not one, of all the crowd, to pry
Into thine hour of secrecy:
Be silent in that solitude
Which is not loneliness -- for then
The spirits of the dead who stood
In life before thee are again
In death around thee -- and their will
Shall then overshadow thee: be still.

For the night -- tho' clear -- shall frown --
And the stars shall look not down,
From their high thrones in the Heaven,
With light like Hope to mortals given --
But their red orbs, without beam,
To thy weariness shall seem
As a burning and a fever
Which would cling to thee for ever :

Now are thoughts thou shalt not banish --
Now are visions ne'er to vanish --
From thy spirit shall they pass
No more -- like dew-drop from the grass:

The breeze -- the breath of God -- is still --
And the mist upon the hill
Shadowy -- shadowy -- yet unbroken,
Is a symbol and a token --
How it hangs upon the trees,
A mystery of mysteries! --

Perfect Halloween jewelry!!  and for work in a library year round (which luckily, I do)!!!

DAY 13

Day 13 was well worth the little extra wait!  Look at this beautiful cross stitched Headless Horseman!!!

I had recently been looking at some Halloween stuff on Pinterest and thinking about how little you see Headless Horseman stuff and ...Voila!!  It fits perfectly in a cheap frame that I had so that I can hang it right away!  (I'll be looking for a nicer frame for it tho')  I absolutely love it!!!

Thank you so much, happylittleclam!!!  You have been a wonderful Halloween swap partner!  I had so much fun making Halloween goodies for you and I love all of the fantastic goodies that you crafted for me!

8  beaded Electric Mayhem bracelet in Beads: Completed Projects by calixita on: August 21, 2014 09:38:53 PM

This is a peyote bead pattern I came up with for a Jim Henson swap a while ago.  A friend of mine is both a big Muppets fan and a musician so I decided to make one for her birthday.

I haven't heard from my partner in a while but she should have received the rest of her Middle Earth package by now (one item accidentally got left out of the original box and was found behind a cushion on the couch!  oops!).  I'm going to post a photo because I quite enjoyed making them.  I was looking thru a book on shaped beadwork by Diane Fitzgerald when inspiration hit and voila!  Eye of Sauron earrings!
