1  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Chemical Symbol Baby Blocks on: May 14, 2006 07:59:50 AM
I knit these for my chemistry professor and his wife who are having a baby.  Hopefully they will help the baby learn chemistry from the very begining.

The Chlorine and gold block is my favorite, I really think the duplicate stitch turned out well on that one.  They are about four inches tall, so that they're big enough to be safe.  I was inspired by a pattern in Knitting to Go, but I definitely didn't follow it since they suggested making a block entirely in ribbing and one entirely in seed stitch, both without letters, which I didn't want to do.

2  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Stenciling: Discussion and Questions / spray stenciling? on: May 25, 2005 11:25:35 AM
Has anyone used the fabric paints that spray on to stencils?  do they have a good final texture?  are they precise enough to use for spray painted effects?
3  Washington / Washington: West / a Really cool art show on: April 14, 2005 05:10:39 PM
this is an amazing show in South Seattle, so awesome.  Check out the close-ups of the embroidered comic book covers.

4  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / John Hughes/ goofy eighties movie swap on: April 11, 2005 07:13:29 PM
What do people think about having a My Favorite Eighties Comedy Movie swap?  I get all twitchy at the thought of making Save Ferris T-shirts- or finding someone an awesome eighties vest, Wyld Stallyns sweatshirts and hats, A sculpey sushi lunch and a giant fake diamond earing, or even a retooled eightiestastic pink prom dress (gasp).  If you don't know what movies I'm talking about you must race to the video store immediately.

You would tell your buddy your favorite eighties comedy and perhaps their favorite character and they would craft glorious crafts to make you feel like you're in the movie, or at least the best fan that ever walked the earth.

So if there are enough people like me who love eighties comedies I would gladly start the swap sign up in early May so that I can be at home with all my lovely craft supplies when crafting time begins.

5  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / Passover??? on: April 10, 2005 01:53:03 PM
Okay, so ummmm here's my question:
I'm going to Passover at my boyfriend's house and a few other people are invited too.  Is it appropriate to bring a bread and butter type gift to such an occasion (clearly not actual bread and butter) like flowers or something, or is it completely innapropriate to bring anything considering it is Passover and there are many people coming who will not be bringing anything 'cause they're my boyfriend's college roommates- but I am his girlfriend, and this is the first time I've met them.  I have no idea.
So Goy it Hurts
6  CLOTHING / Shoes: Discussion and Questions / breaking in shoes on: April 08, 2005 04:11:34 PM
ummmm, so this isn't exactly a "craft" per se, but I have a pair of shoes made out of synthetic leather that KILL my heel right at the top- not even a blister, but a cut.  Does anyone have any suggestions to make shoes wearable/ break them in quickly?
