hey everyone, i have a plain old flimsy tote bag that i love and would like to use as a purse, but i want to line it with something to reinforce it and add a zipper.  i'm really not sure how to go about this, and i've never sewn in a zipper before.  any tips, tricks or ideas?  thanks a lot!

3  UNITED STATES / New Jersey / central nj sewing classes? on: July 04, 2006 08:22:49 AM
i'm looking to spruce up my machine sewing skills, so i was wondering if anyone knew of any classes around here...i thought i had it made when i heard of one at a vo tech by me, but it was something where you bring in a pattern and the teacher helps you make it, but no extra general information.  any help or direction would be great, thanks!

5  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / books for lefty crochet on: January 11, 2006 06:45:18 PM
i also posted this in the book section, but i thought it might get more play here...does anyone know of a book/books for a crochet beginner that is good for left-handed craftsters?  i'm having a hard time learning, and i can't find anyone to teach my themselves.  i found one book that had a whole left handed section, but it turned out it was kind of old and had some errors.  i was looking forward to the stitch n bitch crochet book this month because the knitting book was lefty-friendly, but it's gotten bumped back to april i believe.  i'm dying to crochet!  SOS!

7  COOKING / Vegetarian / Vegan / multiple vegetarian/vegan questions on: January 08, 2006 08:15:27 PM
i've been vegetarian for about 6 months and i love it.  i haven't had a hard time finding great food options and recipes - by the way, the ones on this board are fantastic.  i would also reccomend the recipes at wholefoods.com.  but anyway, i was wondering...
what is tamari?
what is quinoa?
and why do people decide to adopt wheat-free diets?  that was phrased awkwardly.  but what are the advantages?
8  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / removing dome buttonholes on: December 14, 2005 09:38:54 AM
i want to make earrings and other accessories using dome buttons, but i'm not sure what the best way to remove the piece of the back that thread goes through is.  has anyone done this before and had success?
9  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / help me buckle my belt on: December 04, 2005 07:59:10 PM
can someone tell me how this type of belt buckle is used?

i know it's a dumb question, but i'm having a hard time getting how that would hold without slipping, and how it is attached.  if anyone can shed any light on this for me, it would be great!
10  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / super big belt buckle for hip belt? on: November 28, 2005 07:54:42 PM
i'd like to make a wide hip belt, but i'm having a very hard time finding a buckle large enough for what i want, or even large d-rings.  i'm thinking maybe 3 inches.  does anyone have good sources for big belt buckles?
