1  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Hat- cables, short rows, bloody stupid johnson! on: October 26, 2011 11:19:08 AM
The hat!

I got the pattern from knitty, here
 http://knitty.com/ISSUEwinter07/PATTbsjohnson.html

But I was afraid of picking up stitches (but not cables or short rows... I'm a strange one) So I made the  brim and the top of the hat separately, then joined them together with the sideways knit cables.

I liked not having to pick up 100 or so stitches, but I think the top of the hat is less stretch because of it. It wasn't a bad experiment, and the receiver loved it, so its a success. I think I'd do it differently next time though.

C&C, thoughts, and suggestions always welcome,

CptnDenim
2  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Discussion and Questions / Needlelace - any general advice for beginners? on: March 14, 2011 09:54:02 PM
So I've found books on project Gutenberg on needlelace, and I'm ready to start my own project. But I want it to be of my own design, and am having problems getting started.  Huh

Is there a general easiest size for the elements in a pattern? Do the designs all need to connect so you don't pick up the "foundation" thread? Does it really have to be basted onto a pillow?  Undecided

Needlelace isn't the most common hobby, and any general guides, pitfalls to avoid etc. would be much appreciated!

Thanks in advance.  Grin
