251  FIBER ARTS / Felting: Completed Projects / Re: Barn Owl - needle felt on: March 15, 2013 10:40:36 AM
Thanks!!!  Cheesy Cheesy

I think I spent a couple hours making this guy. I'm in the process of making more and different types of owls - trying to figure out the best way to put them together so that the process is faster and easier to explain and do.

I'm working on a series of small owls. I will do some "realistic" and others just for fun. This one is about 2.5". I'm very pleased with how he turned out! =^..^=

Hope your experiments are successful and that you'll be posting photos so we can see what you've made!!

I do agree that the colors are lovely!! Just the sort of yarn I would buy!!  Cheesy

What fun projects!!!

I took a millinery class eons ago, but it didn't include any wet felting techniques. There are so many possibilities!!

Have you tried using a felting stone (instead of the glass washboard)??

It's probably not *impossible*, but it would have certain difficulties. To make it easier, you'd need to "unspin" the wool in question. Is there a particular reason why you want to use this spun wool??

Do you have some carding brushes (or 2 wire dog brushes) around?
Trying cutting your spun wool into 1.5" lengths and card with the wire dog brushes - That ought to unspin the wool and make it easier to needle felt.
256  FIBER ARTS / Felting: Completed Projects / Tiny Mouse on: March 11, 2013 03:41:25 AM

I've been putting this together as a class for CraftArtEdu. Almost have it done. Hopefully I will have it finished today. I made the first mouse like this many years ago to go with one of my Prittens. It's an easy project and fun to make. I keep meaning to do a variation making bunny ears and tail - I think that would work just as well. =^..^=

Very lovely!!! and what a nice thing to do!! I hope they will raise a lot of money!!

I have a fondness for berets! They were the only type of hat that my dad wore and over the years my mom made many for him.
