41  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Re: Yarn Swap for Rapunzel Scarf Round 4 on: October 17, 2008 03:55:17 PM
I have totally been a slacker on the picture posting...ack!  At any rate, here are the lovely yarns I received from Fosca, Phildude, and Kartiana.  I am excited - I should FINALLY have time this weekend to plait my scarf!

Thansk so much!  I'm excited for my scarf - I think all these textures are going to work really nicely together!

I am excited to report that I have finished the afghan for my grandmother!  On the other hand, I have yet to begin my sister's afghan (which may be downgraded to a couple of pillows....it's going to be colorwork (intarsia?) of various Star Wars folks, and I just don't know if I have an entire afghan in colorwork in me) or anything for my mom. ack!

One of my coworkers has a hat her mother made her which I absolutely adore.  So, I did what any self-respecting crafter would do - I made my own!

I love it!  Next time, though, I think I'll start the stripe one or maybe two rows earlier.

I know!  i'm really excited.  And I have to say, I didn't used to be an earthy color person...my mother still gets great joy of telling what we call the "damn brown dress" story - now, of course, brown is one of my favorite colors! crazy.

I tend to think of patterns as loose guides to what I want to do...for example, I was making a colorwork pillow recently.  It was a fairly simple pattern, just blocks of color surrounded by the main color, but I was getting tired of changing colors (it was the largest color chart project I had ever done) so I looked at what I had and at the pattern, then ignored the rest of the pattern and made something that I actually like better than the original.  Sometimes I need the pattern, at least to get an idea of what I am doing, but I rarely follow a pattern exactly for the whole project.
49  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: Fill A Mug Swap Round 3 (SIGN UPS 9/23/08 - 10/07/08; SEND OUTS 10/24/08) on: September 25, 2008 07:06:16 AM
This sounds really fun...I'll have to see how much of my crafting backlog I can finish up in the next couple of days!
50  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Re: Tree Swap on: September 25, 2008 06:51:19 AM
I agree, the point system is a fabulous thing.  I know I was planning on this being a smaller swap (ie, 4 pts/1 med and 2 smalls).  I'm not even sure if I'll be able to participate yet, but it is worth considering that people may have been planning on having it be a smaller swap.

I like the idea of having people choose at sign ups 4/6 points and pair accordingly, though that seems like a lot of work for the organizer(s). But, if the organizer(s) are up for it, my vote would be for that.
