631  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: I ordered some Pakucho Organic Cotton from elann.com....and... on: July 15, 2005 09:08:31 PM
The owner of the LYS here says that the yarn companies are allowed 3 knots a skein.  If there are more than that, the yarn should be sent back.

It is really frustrating when you buy expensive yarn and it has knots in it.  I get mad about it, too.
632  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: Need Flower pin pattern please... felted flower pin? on: July 12, 2005 08:51:33 PM
"Two Old Bags" has a pattern out.  It has several different flowers to knit and felt.  The LYS I work at has the pattern.  I think they are mostly for decoration except the rose can be used as a pin.

Wow, those socks are really nice.  Great job!  Feel proud wearing them.

That is so cute!  You did a wonderful job.  If I had my "before baby" body back, I'd try to make one.  I'm so impressed with people who can just knit up their own designs.

Starlings - thanks for explaining that to me.  I've wondered for awhile but was a little emabarrassed to ask, I wondered if it was something if should have known already!

I'm going to keep on reading this thread as more people write.  This is very interesting to learn about.  It will make a difference of what I spend my money on.

636  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Re: Projects from "Simple Knits for Cherished Babies" on: June 21, 2005 08:48:23 PM
I fell in love with this book and had to have it, even before I ever got pregnant.  So, I made the wrap sweater in lavender just to make it, it is so cute!  Then I ended up getting pregnant.....with a boy!  So, my lavender sweater is just to look at!  I did make him a sweater from this book though and it turned out really wide and short.  It was my 1st sweater ever so that's OK.

I'm glad I found this thread.  I'm going to get that book out again and make something else for my handsome little man.

I'd be interested in seeing the list, too.

I don't really know what mercerized cotton is.  I know it feels stiffer but don't know how or why.  Anyone know?

I guess I kinda assumed that it wasn't cruel to use the wool from sheep.  The people that I know that have sheep have them as pets and use their wool for spinning yarn.  Is there a cruel way that it's done?

I'd really like to know about this.  I'm thinking I've been naive to this whole thing.  I won't use a yarn if I find out they are being cruel to their animals.

That is really cute, I like the colors.  Which flavors made those colors?  I think the straps look nice, too.  The yellow was a perfect choice for them.
639  KNITTING / Knitalongs / Re: Alien Illusion Scarf - knitalong on: June 19, 2005 07:36:30 AM
I was excited and just started this scarf.  I only got 4 rows done but now I have to start over!  I am using sport weight yarn instead of worsted so I need to switch to smaller needles.  At least I only did 4 rows.

I've had the yarn for this one for awhile.  I also have Nature Spun in bright green and black.  I should go ahead and start it with all of you!  I needed another project to start, I've slowly been finishing some of my other ones.

*Edit*
Thanks for the chart, it's great!
