You can buy a walking foot for  most machine, I don't know the difference between a machine that specifically does to just adding it though.

Would a walking foot help? I have had several people tell me that a walking foot works wonders when sewing with knit fabric! And if that doesn't work..... I'm out of ideas, sorry!!!

Maybe its the needle?
Or the thread...
Does it have a manual?
What kind of machine is it?

I use an old machine and I like it fine, it works good. really the things you use the most are straight and zig-zag, all the others don't get used nearly as much.

If it were this is what I would do:
do a basic cleaning of it/oil
change the needle (really it needs to be changed pretty often)
See if you can get a few basic things for it/see if the parts are still available or if new ones will fit

Then I would use the old one until I saved enough for a really good machine and all the accessories.
IHTH!!!

ditto! I think a needle (not threaded) and paper would be good too!
