41  Re: Ongoing ATC Swap - March 2013 GALLERY! in The Swap Gallery by Helcura on: May 20, 2013 02:33:43 AM
I received these lovely ATCs from Swap Angel Michelleandbean.  I think it's really appropriate that one of them is an angelfish.

Here's the great ATC I got today from kartiana.

It's called "Paper Windows" for my windows theme and it's made from the pages of an old Tarzan book.  Isn't it just the coolest thing?

I received this awesome card from cmarion3.  It started out as doorways to dreams, but morphed into windows.  I don't care, I love it!

Don't you just want to step through into that beautiful landscape?

I love all the places on the Canada card.  And the baby jackalope is so cute!

I got this really neat card from FairyHazeDesigns on my clothesline theme, called "Blowing in the
Wind."   I love it!

47  Some card (tablet) woven bookmarks in Weaving: Completed Projects by Helcura on: March 27, 2013 03:09:59 AM
I got really interested in card-weaving (some people call it tablet-weaving) because of the complex patterns you can easily make.  Bookmarks are a great way to experiment with colors and patterns and they make up really quickly because you don't need to do any finishing except cutting them apart.

Here are a few recent ones.  They're made with perl cotton that's left over from my mom's projects on her floor loom.

The front and back side of card-weaving has distinctly different patterns, which I think is also really cool.  Here are two sides of the blue and white bookmark.

(Hopefully my pics of the next set will be more in focus.)   Undecided

So many great cards!  I love the expression on the black cat's face.

I received a wonderful card for Exotic Animals from blupaisan.  It's an armadillo lizard from South Africa.  The lizard curls up in a ball with its tail in its mouth to protect itself from predators.

Isn't this the most beautiful watercolor rendition?

49  Card woven watchband in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by Helcura on: March 21, 2013 12:19:36 AM
I made a woven beaded watchband about four years ago, which I have worn non-stop, but recently one of the warp threads broke and it was all downhill from there.

Here's the original band:

I'm one of those people who isn't very good with time, so I really need to wear my watch.  Searching for a quick replacement, I found a card woven bookmark I had made and realized it could be converted into a watchband.

When I rolled the bookmark it was a little short, so I sewed some elastic on, which also made it easy to slip the watch on and off (you can see a little bit of the backside pattern of the cardweaving in this pic, too):

Here's the front pattern of the weaving:

Here is the final product:

I'm not sure of a good way to finish the raw edges.  The card weaving is too thick to fit under the watch bars, which is what I would do with a ribbon band.

50  Re: 13 Amis in 2013 in Crochetalongs by Helcura on: March 18, 2013 01:37:37 AM
Finished my first amigurumi.  It took longer to make than the pattern said it would, but no surprise since I've mostly only made baby blankets before now.  I thought I might try a couple more in different colors.

I was thinking of Puchitomato's roly poly cats as a next logical step, but if anyone has other suggestions, I'd love to hear them.
