21  Re: Ongoing ATC swap - August 2013 Gallery in The Swap Gallery by Helcura on: August 09, 2013 02:17:44 AM
I got this great card from blupaisan for my clotheslines theme.  It's called "The Visitor."  I was so busy admiring the detail that it took me a moment to notice the visitor.  I just love your sense of humor, blu!

I got this lovely card from goosegoose for my goddesses theme.  It's titled "Aphrodite"

I love the combination of classic black and white with the punch of color from the sewn section.

I received this absolutely amazing card from blupaisan for my windows theme:

The bark is from a giant sycamore tree she has off her back deck.  Here's a closer look at the detail:

A great drawing, beautiful fabric and that awesome bark - it's a wonderful work of art.  I feel so lucky to receive this - thank you, blu!

24  Re: Mail Art Swap - Gallery! in The Swap Gallery by Helcura on: August 02, 2013 09:45:10 PM
I know my partner received, but I think she's really busy and hasn't had time to post pictures, so I thought I'd go ahead and post what I sent her.

I noticed when I was stalking her that she likes four seasons trees, so I did a spring day to night tree for the front:

The tree is made from hearts punched out of magazine pages, the background is acrylic paint.

For the back, I did Koi fish, which my partner likes, and added the Japanese names of the types in silver sharpie:

For extras, I put in an ATC of her favorite cat, Mason:

Some magnets and leaf charms and a bookmark:

She had urban rubbings and Yellowstone on her Pinterest, so I went downtown and did some rubbings from grates and manhole covers and such (that was really fun and I'm going to do some more Smiley ) and also sent her some photos from my trip to Yellowstone in June - cool coincidence that I just went there and she is interested in it!

This was a totally fun swap and I loved what everyone did - so many creative and artistic ideas.  You're all great!

Rockingbearranch did two great cards for me.  One is for artist's choice and the other is for my clothesline theme.  The cool part is that they go together:

The colors are more intense and the background is more blue than in the pictures, but notice how perfectly the rickrack lines up.  Marvelous!

She also sent these GORGEOUS chicken feathers - I want to use them right away!

Thank you!

26  Mail Art in Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General by Helcura on: July 27, 2013 09:29:24 PM
My partner in the Mail Art Swap received, so I'm going to go ahead and post this.

I made the envelope out of heavy 12" by 12" paper with the pattern on the inside.  Here is the front:

The background is acrylic paint, and the tree is made from hearts punched out of magazine pages.  I had originally planned to do the whole thing in hearts, but it took a lot longer than I expected to assemble the tree, so I had to change my design or I wouldn't have been able to send it out on time.  I really like the effect though:

Here is the back:

My swap partner likes koi fish, so I looked up some of the specialty breeds and did paintings of them in acrylic paint.  I wrote the Japanese names with silver Sharpie for a little sparkle.

The center on the back is just a weight I put on it to keep the top flap from popping up when I took the picture, but now I'm kind of sorry I didnt' make a seal to put in the center, as I like the origami paper with the fish.  (hmmm, I'm getting an idea for a mixed media piece . . . )

I just found a nice surprise - there was one other piece of art that was inside my envelope, but which was sort of stuck and I didn't find it right away:

Isn't it great!

Oh my - so great!  Honestly, what wonderful creativity from everyone.    Cheesy

I got this fabulous envelope from ThriftyLiving4U:

First the front:

I used to drive my mother crazy singing the little bunny foo foo song when I was a kid.  This totally made me laugh.  Smiley

And the back:

It's hard to see in the picture, but the cute little houses and flowers are highlighted with metallic gold marker.

And finally - inside, she sent me this great collection of papers for future crafting:

I've already decided to put several of them on stiff backing for bookmarks.   I just love it all!

29  Learning pen and ink in Artist Trading Cards (ATCs) by Helcura on: July 21, 2013 09:28:33 PM
Pen and ink, plus watercolor ATCs:

I am not very good at drawing yet - I have to practice a lot more, so when I do a pen and ink work it takes me a long time, and I need tons of photo references.  These two were good enough to send out in swaps:

Oracle:

Vintage Camper:

They say you need 10,000 hours of practice to become an expert at something - I've got a long way to go, but at least I've started . . .

Check out the wonderfully smooth shading from orange to yellow.  And what a serene and beautiful expression on the face!
