11  Pingu, Pingu! in Amigurumi: Completed Projects by AugustBell on: May 04, 2013 11:56:59 AM
My son is obsessed with this British show from the 90s called Pingu. It's the cutest thing, and thanks to the miracle of Netflix we can enjoy it now.

Since the show was older and not based in America there are no available toys here. I found a cute pattern on Ravelry for a penguin so I made it to look like Pingu.

I think I made the chest piece a little too big, but he loves it anyway Smiley

Here's the real Pingu:

Here's an update on my OWL project. Poor little OWL blanket...she's been neglected. But I've pounded out a few rows this week  Grin

I've decided to make it bigger than my original plan. Can't wait to finish!!

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Apparition
House: Ravenclaw
Project Name: Dish Set
Project Page Link (if available):
Brief Description: I am not a big knitter, but I wanted to get more acquainted with the craft.  I made this dish set that consists of a hedgehog washcloth and a multi colored hand towel. I love crafting things that are useful and I think I will get a lot of use out of these things. While I enjoyed the knitting, it will definitely not be replacing crochet in my home any time soon!

16  Dumbledore's Erised in Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General by AugustBell on: April 07, 2013 11:25:21 AM
"I see myself holding a pair of thick, woolen socks." Harry stared. "One can never have enough socks," said Dumbledore. "Another Christmas has come and gone and I didn't get a single pair. People will insist on giving me books."/i]

I made this magnet for pottermouth in the OAHPT swap.  It's based on the above quote from Prof. Dumbledore in the Sorceror's Stone.

Ok, brace yourselves. I've got a whole lot of AWESOME to share!!! I received from Pottermouth today and it's absolutely fantastic!!!! She sent me Potter Puppet Pals Organization Kit for Yarnies!! Such an amazing idea!

This is what she drew on the box...a hint of what was to come:

Here's the group shot:

Aren't they just amazing?! We've got a Hermione project bin for WIPs, a Harry stash bin for my yarn, a hook roll, a Dumbledore notions bag, a Snape yarn dispenser bag, and an owl stuffie for my son.

Here's a close up of Hermione:

Close up of Harry....I love him!!

Snape yarn bag. There's a grommet in the back that you thread the yarn through then you can close up the bag and crochet!

And there's a Hogwarts inside:

Close up of Dumbledore. How cute is he?

Hook roll!! I'm so pumped about this!

And now my favorite picture, my little guy holding onto his new friend before bed:

Thanks so much for all the helpful hints and tips!! I dyed my yarn with koolaid this morning  Grin

It's a tiny little skein, but I'm excited about it! I have a 3.5 ounce pack of roving that I'm going to start on soon. Yay!

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Charms
House: Ravenclaw
Project Name: First Handspun Yarn
Project Page Link (if available): n/a
Brief Description: I went to a Fiber Arts Extravaganza in December with my BFF and while we were there we were introduced to the art of spinning fiber into yarn. I was immediately drawn to this craft, but it's very intimidating at first. I've been thinking on it since our trip and I finally ordered a drop spindle and some wool roving to try it. I received with my spindle a small amount of sample fiber to practice with. I'd say it was less than an ounce. I watched some YouTube videos and after a couple of terribly botched attempts, I was able to make something that looked more like yarn. I let it rest on the spindle overnight and then I soaked it in warm water and dyed it with Kool-Aid. I made a tiny skein from it that's almost 4 inches long when rolled up. It's far from perfect, but I'm so happy that I did it!

*Owl Update*
I've started my blanket! I've got 21 rows in and some wrist and hand cramps to show for it. I think I better take a break for a couple of days!
