2  Anchorman Quote in Needlework: Completed Projects by AugustBell on: January 21, 2015 05:56:16 PM
This is my first cross stitch project, and it was so much fun. I'm definitely hooked. It's a Ron Burgundy quote from Anchorman. I made it for a friend I work with. I made a couple of small mistakes but I'm glad I did because now I know better Smiley

Here's my silly quote! My first ever cross stitch  Smiley It's a quote from Ron Burgundy in Anchorman. I framed it and gave it to a friend at work who loves the movie.

5  Needle Minder Tutorial in Needlework: Completed Projects by AugustBell on: January 18, 2015 05:53:27 PM
If you are anything like me then you lose your needle no less than 100 times per stitching session. It's been a source of constant frustration for me in the past. Last week I discovered a wonderful little creation called a needle minder:

It sits on your fabric and looks adorable, and also holds your needle when you aren't using it! I'm sure many of you hardcore needle-crafters already know about these, but I figured there might be some others out there who haven't heard Smiley

Luckily it's super easy to make your own. Here are the supplies you will need to make a felt needle minder:

Wool Felt (I get mine on Etsy)
Scissors
Embroidery floss
Embroidery needle
Small ceramic magnets
Ballpoint pen

First I cut a piece of felt to an appropriate size for my magnet, making sure to leave a large enough seam allowance for stitching up. Then also a back piece.

Then using the ballpoint pen I drew my design directly onto my felt.

Then I stitched my design. You could also use fabric paints or pens!

Okay, I'm all done! Man, that was fast  Wink

Now it's time to stitch it together! I used a blanket all the way around stopping to leave about a 3/4 - 1 inch opening like this:

And then I popped one magnet inside the opening and continued stitching until I came to the end. Then you need a second magnet like this:

To use the needle minder take the back magnet off and place it behind your fabric. Then set your needle minder on top of the fabric and let the power of magnetism do all the work!

Now enjoy your stitching knowing that you won't drop your needle into the couch or shaggy rug a billion times. This is my first tute so I apologize if it's lacking. If further explanation is needed, just ask. And if you need help with the blanket stitch I highly recommend YouTube. It's one of those things you really need to see demonstrated Smiley Enjoy!

Brief Description: I used wool felt to create this needle minder for my cross stitch and embroidery projects. I am constantly losing my needles when stitching, so I was so pumped to find out about needle minders. There's a magnet inside the cat that attaches to the fabric via another magnet behind it and then I can stick my needle on there. Fun!
