21  pencil[ish?] skirt (three kinda big pictures) in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by elfin enigma on: March 29, 2006 10:50:40 PM
stretch twill, from joann's.  i made a practice one out of old sheet...perfect.  the actual fabric...not so much...argh!  it took a LOT of tweaking to get it to this, and i'm not 100% satisfied.  but i can't complain too much.  i'm way too self-critical.  you can't really see it so well, but i made the bottom slit zippered, as suggested on whatthecraft, i thought that was a neat idea!  excuse the filthy mirror.  i was worried it'd make my already, um, ample, hips and rear look way huge.  hm...not so bad...i think?

22  zippered lined tote! with tree! in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by elfin enigma on: March 16, 2006 08:15:48 PM
it's canvas; lined, zippered, inside zippered pocket, squared bottom...this thing took waaaay longer than it should have...i had a few little problems along the way which required a few tearings apart.  argh.  anyway, it's done and pretty satisfactory now, so no more complaining!   Wink

eep!  care bears!  stars!  pink corduroy!  all so cute.  here's another bag i made...much bigger and with handles and with an inner zippered pocket, but i basically used these steps [and had to rip it apart when i realized, oops, i shoulda sewed the handles in at that step...  and then i did the square bottom corners and a snazzy stencil and voila!  [well...not so voila...more like many hours later, haha.]  let me say that this was one of the most troublesome things i've made...not sure why since it's pretty straightforward and sewing in straight lines but argh!  anyway, all done now and i'm pleased enough with the result.

i made another one...i can't stop!!!  haha.  this one's kinda 80s-ish themed.  you can't see it so well in the pitcture but the pocket's lining is pink "crackly"looking with hearts and squiggles in white and random blotches of purple/teal/orange, and the applique on the front is one of the hearts cut out from that, attached with green thread to match the zipper.  the wrist strap is part of a tie.  the leopard print lining is flannel.  an the outside is an old jeans leg, those sparkly jeans that went out of style as quick as they came into it, haha.

25  grumpy owl [felt applique] in Completed Projects by elfin enigma on: March 07, 2006 06:07:16 PM
my first felt applique!  i made this and an orange and a pear in about 5 minutes, and here i was worried it would be hard and take forever, etc...  i think i have a new addiction...  i've started to compile a list of other shapes i want to make.

jeans leg leftover from pants-to-skirt + polka dot fabric that i've had for freakin' EVER + cute little birdy:

and the indside with a pocket

annnnnd a close-up of the bird

darn it, i wish i'd put on a wrist strap...any ideas for doing that post-construction?  hmmm.  i also did a line of stitches just below the zipper as the lining was getting caught in it.  wee!

28  heart shirt in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by elfin enigma on: March 03, 2006 10:01:07 PM
i posted on the book board about megan nicolay's book, "generation t"...here is one shirt i did inspired by that.

the red is just a tank underneath, my attempt to sew in some fabric behind the slashes after the slicing resulted in a bunched-up mess!  but i kinda like being able to change the background color to suit my mood.

it says, ironically over the chest, "small but beautiful", haha.  and i tried to touch up the image with red acrylic paint where it had cracked.
