I will never hear that song again without thinking of your family, those lines are so poignant. It sounds like you have come up with pefect ways to honour your son's memory, I hope they bring some comfort.

I think it's beautiful and the textures you have captured make me think it would be a gorgeous embroidery!

Hi, I've finally got around to posting a pic of my finished set, I gave it to my sister for Christmas, she liked it but to be quite honest I don't think she could really appreciate just how long it all took! The board is patchworked and I made a fleece lined drawstring bag because the tiles are ceramic.

25  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Re: Felt board on: January 07, 2009 02:27:54 PM
this is such a great idea! I might just have to make a couple of smaller ones for my cousin's girls, I have a feeling they would love them, they could make good travel toys too - zero mess! I can also see this idea turning into a good patchwork ideas board, if I bought the biggest canvas I can find then covered it with batting I could have myself a small, portable patchwork board! thanks!!
26  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Re: knitting Needles... on: January 05, 2009 11:25:59 PM
these are beautiful! do they feel good to use? I love them all and the first thing that came to mind was that you would make awesome magic wands! I have a small magic wand that I bought about 15 years ago and it just sits hidden in my pot of paint brushes making me happy every so often when I come accross it when hunting for the right brush, it is just a resin tube cast with glitter and sequins inside it. I looooove the stripy one........I looove them all!! This rocks!

they are very cute! I am interested in your stencilling technique, it looks like you taped the area then cut the stencil from the tape while it was on the fabric? I have never come across this before, do you mind explaining how you did it?

thanks, I think yours looks great! I will post a picture when I've finished, it's supposed to be a christmas present for my sister but it's taking so long it will be hard to give it away!

Ok, I am completely freaked out, I am currently in the process of making almost exactly the same thing! I have been making the tiles in my ceramics class - they have been underglazed and hopefully had their first firing this week, on monday I will be putting a second glaze on to highlight the carved letters.

found this picture on my camera that shows the process of creating the tiles (I have two extra blanks)

I am going to do a patchwork board

I guess great minds think alike eh?
