11  COOKING / Dessert / Cake "In Da Wa" or water-theme cake on: October 02, 2011 12:59:47 PM
My 2 year old LOVES the water!  She calls it "da wa", hence the name "cake in da wa".  I surprised her with a water-themed cake for her birthday and she was so excited!  She screamed, jumped, and danced around so much when she saw it!
It was very simple to do.  I frosted a normal rectangle cake with blue frosting and added all sorts of gummy sea animals like octopus, sharks, fish, sea turtles, and frogs.  Then I filled in empty spaces with green seaweed frosting and white bubbles.
Sorry, I haven't posted enough to add pictures but I put a link at the end (that hopefully works!)

12  COOKING / Dessert / hamburger cake on: October 02, 2011 12:55:51 PM
I have 7 daughters then I had a son!  I was so excited to celebrate his first birthday and wanted to make a cake that said "boy" but not too sexist.  Plus, since he's only 1, I got to choose the cake design instead of him.  I took the opportunity to make a cake that looked like a giant hamburger.  I found some pictures that went through great time and detail to make condiments such as lettuce and pickles and tomatoes to go in between the layers but I figured why go through the trouble when no one would see them anyway.  Plus, I don't have any skill so they would just end up looking like blobs.  I thought it turned out pretty cute and he enjoyed it!
Sorry- haven't posted enough (even though I lurk a lot) to post pictures but here is a link.
13  COOKING / Dessert / Candyland Cake on: October 02, 2011 12:51:37 PM
Last year my 3 year old found a picture of a cake decorated like a CandyLand board and fell in love.  I pondered for months exactly how I would pull it off with no decorating skills whatsoever.  I hit the local bulk candy store and got things like gummy bears, shaped lollipops, dumdums, starburst, and dots.  Of course mine was not nearly as professional looking as the magazine but she loved it all the same.
Sorry, I've been watching this site for a while but I seldom post so my picture has to be a link.
