1  CLOTHING / Costumes: Completed Projects / 1850's Dress for the San Francisco Dickens Christmas Fair on: February 10, 2011 05:04:22 PM
Hey all! I worked on this for a while but was still finishing it the morning of the event. This was the first year I went dressed up and it was so much fun! Smiley This is my first real venture into historical costuming and I am so excited to get further into it.

I made everything except the corset and the crinoline petticoat made of tulle. I bought both those items at the Fair in previous years. I used Simplicity #3727 and modified the sleeves a little (made them smaller and one piece instead of two) and didn't make the collar. So here it goes.

Used a Simplicity pattern for the chemise and drawers which is now out of print.

I made this flounced petticoat to go over the tulle criniline I bought because the skirt needed more volume. I made it out of scraps of fabric I had from old projects so nothing really matches but it's underneath so it doesn't really matter. Smiley

2  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Doctor Who Russian Nesting Dolls on: February 07, 2011 04:41:29 PM
Hey everyone! This is the first craft I've posted here on craftster and I am so excited.

I am a huge fan of the British scifi show Doctor Who and I also collect Russian nesting dolls. After seeing a set someone painted of the TARDIS and all 11 incarnations of the Doctor posted on facebook and seeing the set by irishdaydreamer here on craftster, I decided to make a set for myself.

I bought the blank wood nesting dolls off of Amazon.com and they were actually from Russia... which I think is pretty cool. I chose to paint the TARDIS, David Tennant's Doctor (as his is my favorite), and my three favorite companions: Donna, Rose, and Captain Jack.

Here goes:

Thanks! Smiley
