PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / Steampunk-themed Hand-made sketchbook!

My first hand-made sketchbook! Pretty small, about 6"x8" and about 3/4" thick. Black leather on the front brushed with copper paint for the gears, and then cut-out feathers detailed with more leather paint. Also a nifty little bookmark made with a real peacock feather and a gear! This book is actually for a project that I am starting. I will be painting on the first page then mailing to book to another artist, they paint then they mail, so on and so forth. I have about 50 people signed up so almost all the pages will be filled!

MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Andrew's Dragonfly - Custom Painting
|

Around December I was absolutely SWAMPED with life. University finals, commissions, fighting off the usual cold 'n flus flying around, and I was to leave for a 2.5 week vacay in Hawaii over Christmas. I was finding everything very hard to manage. And then a friend approached me, asking if there was any way that I would be able to do a custom painting for him, as the perfect Christmas gift to his mother. I was hesitant at first, but I asked him to explain what he would like. With a slight pleading look in his eye, he explained the story of his late younger brother, and the significance of the elements he would like (such as the words "Andrew", and "I Hope You Dance", as well as the way the dragonfly is hovering above a pond). It was absolutely beautiful, and it touched me. So I told him, yes, I will do everything in my power to get this done for you before Christmas. So I buckled down, went to town and WORKED LIKE A MADWOMAN. Sleep? What is such a thing?

MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Jackalope! With a Magic Swishy Fire Stick and Pink Smoke!

Although it doesn't tend to show, my favorite subjects to paint are animals with a fantasy or surreal spin to them. Meet Mr. Jackalope, with non-traditional kudu horns instead of the usual pronghorn-style horns. I painted this as a gift for a friend that made me the most INCREDIBLE hand-made sketch book. The thing feels like there is magic inside, like the contents are recipes for spells and magic potions. Tehee.
