1  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Bofur Fingerless glove pattern on: January 21, 2014 09:04:22 AM
So, I adore this guy right here:

James Nesbitt places Bofur the dwarf beautifully and manages to give him a sparkle of mischief and optimism that makes the Hobbit movies a lot more fun in my opinion.  He has an awesome pair of hand warmers that he wears, but, alas, they're knit. I only crochet so I decided to try and convert the seed stitch pattern to one that I could crochet.

Here is the result:

This was a lot of trial and error but it worked up fairly quickly once I figured out the stitch. The pattern is untested, so if you find an error, let me know Smiley This pattern is worked from the bottom up and is one solid piece. I used a medium gray worsted weight yarn for this, and a size H hook. Don't make your stitches to tight. You'll need three stitch markers for this as well. The glove is able to be worn on the right or left hand so make two of this pattern.

Bofur Fingerless gloves:

Your seed stitch pattern: odd rows: sc in st, dc in nxt st. Repeat that alternation the entire round. Even rows: dc in st, sc in nxt st. Repeat that alternation the entire round. You will master this stitch by the end. It creates a neat bumpy look like the knitted seed stitch.

Start: Chain 27 (if you need more keep the stitch count odd) sc in first chain so that you have a circle. Put a stitch marker there. You'll move it to the last stitch after each round is completed.

Rw 1: sc in each stitch.

Rw 2: dc in 1st st, sc in next st, sc in nxt st, seed stitch the remaining stitches. Move stitch marker to last stitch.

Rw 3: sc in 1st st, dc in nxt st, seed stitch all the way around the row.

Rw 4-16: repeat Rw 2 and 3. NOTE: if you want a shorter glove, just cut out a few rows here. End on an even count though, or you'll have to switch stitches.

Rw 17: start of the thumb. sc in 1st st, dc and sc in nxt st. Place stitch marker in the dc just made. dc in nxt st, sc and dc in nxt st. Place stitch marker in that stitch. Repeat seed stitch pattern around.

Rw 18: dc in 1st st, sc and dc in marked st,  place marker in sc just made, sc, dc, sc, dc and sc in nxt st, place marker in sc just made. repeat seed stitch pattern around.

Rw 19: sc in 1st st, dc and sc in marked st, place marker in dc just made. dc, sc, dc, sc, dc. sc and dc in nxt st, place marker in dc just made. Repeat seed stitch pattern around.

Rw 20-23: seed stitch all around. place markers in marked stitch.

Rw 24: dc in 1st st, ch 2, sc in 2nd marched st. this will leave you a fairly large hole, this is where your thumb will go. you can remove the two stitch markers now. DO NOT TAKE OFF THE MAKER THAT IS MARKING THE START OF YOUR ROUND! continue in seed stitch to the end of the round. You'll have 29 stitches (counting the 2 you chained.)

Rw 25: Seed stitch around.

Rw 26-29: Seed stitch around.

Rw 30: sc in first st, sl-st in next four stitches. Cut your yarn and fasten off. weave the tail back through the slip stitches.

2  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Sherlock blanket on: August 03, 2013 09:09:38 PM
I adore Sherlock Holmes, in all iterations. I've been reading him since I was eight, and I've been a fan ever since.

One of my best friends provided me with a fun cross-stitch pattern that I decided to transform into a crochet blanket. I made each stitch into a granny square and this is the result:

It's about four feet tall and is quite a lot larger than I originally intended it to be. That's what I get for not doing the math before I stitched, lol!

Update: Here's the pattern, I hope it makes sense Smiley

5  Calls for Swap Angels / Swap Angel Archive / Star Trek Swap V Angel Found! on: May 15, 2013 09:37:19 AM
Swap name: Star Trek Swap V
Original thread: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=421023.0
Gallery: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=422691.0

goldfishpollywog is looking for an angel! The swap required that each participant craft 4 points worth of items from any Star Trek movie or show. You can craft a large item and a small, two mediums, or a medium and two smalls. Once you are chosen as an angel, you will have 2 weeks time (beginning on the date I PM you to confirm you have been accepted) to craft and send your item. If you are wanting to angel to redeem feedback, keep in mind:
In the case of someone angeling to redeem negative feedback, the swap they choose to send an angel package for MUST be similar to the swap they originally flaked on in terms of size and time commitment. For example, if someone did not complete a swap with multiple send outs, they must do an angel package for EACH send out they missed. If someone did not complete a swap where they should have sent one large and two small items, they must send at least that much to the person they are angeling for.

A few excerpts from her questionairre:

Do you have allergies? Latex, & some strong fragrances. Beyond that, nothing to worry about unless you send food, then just ask.

Characters? K'Ehleyr, Reginald Barclay, Q, Spock, EMH, Picard, Tom, B'Elanna, Guinan, Scotty, Data, MCoy, Riker, I can go on and on

Quotes? "Computer?  Hello Computer?..."  "Lifeforms, precious little lifeforms, where are you?" " And as Captain, I want two things done. First, find Cyrano Jones, and second close that door. "  "We do not discuss it with outsiders."

Which series/movies have you seen? (We're trying to avoid spoilers) Don't fret on spoilers.  In order to date my (then future) husband I had to watch all of the movies.  Since then, I think I have seen everything with the exception of some Enterprise and some DS9.  We pretend the fifth movie was never made.

Is there any other information you would like your partner to know?
Here's where it gets fun!  You can craft for anyone in my family as we are all Trekkies and  so while I am answering for myself, and limiting my answers to whatever my brain spits out at the moment.  It would be difficult to pick something that wouldn't appeal to one of us. Ask and I could flesh out answers for myself or anyone else in the family.  Pintrest is a great start for stalking.

If you are interested in becoming an angel for this swap, please PM organizer Wizards_Pupil.
Eligible applicants are taken on a first come, first served basis!
6  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Princess Leia on: May 03, 2013 09:06:51 AM
Hi again! Here is my latest piece:

It's based off an image my sister gave me from episode 6.
7  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Who Da Man? Alright I'm Never Saying That Again, Fine! on: April 28, 2013 12:26:09 PM
Hi all! I'm new to the world of needle craft, but I think I'm becoming obsessed with it. My little sister saw me making a small Spock hoop and she requested that I make her one with the eleventh Doctor. Her favorite episode is 'The Eleventh Hour' and this is one of her favorite quotes. I decided that I'd put Matt in full garb for this one, Fez and Bowtie included. 'Cause, you know, they're cool and all Wink

Here it is:

8  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / BBC Swap on: April 28, 2013 12:12:51 PM

So, I missed the Doctor Who swap (again!) and the Holmes shop at Christmas. My question to all of you now is if anyone would be interested in joining a BBC Swap? Any show on BBC (current or not) would be acceptable. Ones like: Doctor Who, Torchwood (I know it's on showtime now but it was BBC) Merlin, Sherlock, Downton Abbey, Being Human, Spaced, Red Dwarf, Monty Python, etc. (Let me know of any I'm missing! If I don't watch it now I'll probably add it in my list of need to watch. I'm in the market for a new show Smiley )

The basic idea would be a 4 point swap or a swap with any of the following combinations: one medium two smalls, two mediums, one large and one small. I'm thinking sign-ups in middle May and send-outs late June. Does that work for you gals and guys? Would anyone be interested?

Happy crafting!
9  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / Talk About The Swap Process / 'Dead Mail' Sent to Mail Recovery on: April 17, 2013 01:02:14 PM
Hi,

I've got a question about USPS. My partner sent my package out on the 13th and I just received a update on the USPS tracking site that said my package was now 'Dead Mail/ Sent to Mail Recovery.' It then went on to give me this notification. "Your item could not be delivered or returned to the sender. It is being forwarded to a USPS mail recovery center where it will be processed."

Does anyone know how to handle this? What do I do?
