1  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Re: Favorite Book Swap on: April 19, 2016 09:39:18 AM
I live off of free classics. Ever tried librivox? They have audio versions of all classics. Pretty much anything published before 1923. They're readings by amateurs, but they're all of excellent quality. I'm always listening to one when I'm cleaning. There's nothing like a good story while you're mindlessly doing dishes or dusting Smiley

Archive.org also has some good digital books and audio books that can be found for free.

Now that is an awesome idea. It literally never occured ot me that digital versions could be sent.

I particularly like that you included the 'least faves' bit because obviously we don't want  to send anything someone will hate reading.

I might end up sending numerous books. I'm a bit indecisive on my favorite...

So open the swap sign ups in the last half of may and maybe have June 1st as the actual start of the swap?

And any type of genre would be welcome. We'll just match the readers accordingly. Classic lovers with classic lovers, YA with YA, and anybody between. Smiley I'll read just about anything if it sits still long enough xD

What questions would you like to see on the questionairre?

Okay, so we'll be crafting for our favorite book that we're sending, and maybe extras depending on what we've read.

When would be a good time for everyone? May? Summer? Earlier than that?

If that's something everyone thinks would be a good idea we could do that. It might also help weed out any flakers ahead of time as well.

And no worries on the books, Gozer Wink I read everything (Young Adult, Old Adult, children, mystery, horror, chick lit, non fiction, historical, fantasy, classic, and whatever other genres are out there.) I've never actually read Pride and Prejudice (which is something I should probably actually sit down and read), but Little Women was the first book I read that didn't have pictures in it so it has a soft spot in my heart. LOTR is my favorite book of all times. Having said that, I'm currently re-reading Percy Jackson, which I adore. What YA do you specifically like?

I also looked at the previous swaps that were book based and it looked like most swappers made items based on the book(s) they sent and or whatever they had read that their partners had read as well. Or just bookish things that were useful. (mug rugs, tea, bookmarks, totes, reading quotes.)

Personally I'm fine with it either way. We can do a pre swap book send with a month or so to read the book, and then craft time. Or have a swap where you craft based on your book (the one you're sending) or one that you both like.

What would you all prefer?

In the past there has been an awesome swap were you and your partner sent eachother your favorite books, and a few crafted items based on the books sent and received. For instance, lets say I loved Little Women and my partner loved Pride and Prejudice. I would send her a copy of Little Women, a craft inspired by that book, (Like a notebook based on Jo's character) and an item inspired by Pride and Prejudice. (Lets say Jewelry Liz might wear.) We could decide on the amount of items we think would be a good idea, and how many books we'd like to send.

Does that sound like fun to anyone else? I'm thinking all craft skills would be allowed. (Crocheting, Knitting, Sewing, Embroidery, Paper Crafts, Jewelry, Sculpting, etc.)

So sign-ups in late October or November with send-outs maybe in late December or January? (Extra crafting time since Holidays are smack in the middle of that, lol!)

And I think any type of hoop would be okay. I'd just specify in the questionnaire what type you primarily make and would like to receive.

I'm so glad you liked the bookmarks Cheesy It took forever to sketch out those swords.

I received from Quantumphysica a few days ago but forgot to post pictures of my fabulous loot:

A terrific Hobbit inspired bookmark with the first page of the book behind Bilbo's silhouette. (It's a printed copy, no actual copies of the book were harmed, thankfully!)

A beautifully detailed bookmark made after a design on Arwen's dress Smiley (The one she wore in the chase scene in FOTR)
Here's an image of the dress with a detail shot of where the design came from:

Thank you so much!

So I think the open ended/ Surprise hoop sounds like the best option for everyone Smiley Perhaps with the option to pick a specific category if so desired? (Like An option to request a hoop with a quote or an image?)

When would be a good time for the swap?
