1  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / PATTERN NEEDED--- dress with skirt starting at hip? on: February 08, 2011 12:52:26 AM
I am looking for a dress kind of like this, but the skirt starts at the hip instead of the waist... anyone know of any patterns?

No belt or embellishments in the middle, and if the skirt is longer, that is not a problem. Strapless and sweetheart neck preferred. Thanks! Smiley
2  CLOTHING / Costumes: Discussion and Questions / Anyone need help finding pieces? :) on: January 27, 2011 08:51:48 PM
I know this sounds weird, but I have a lot of cosplayer/shadowcasting friends, and am known in some small parts for my "Google Fu." For some reason, I have a strange and amazing ability to find great pieces for costumes, and am relentless in my persuit of them.

I have considered making a pay site for this service, but right now, I am offering it for free.

At the moment, I am quite bored and feel like helping some cosplayers!

If you'd like to ask me for a helping hand, please send me a PM filling out the following:

Costume- be specific! I need character, scene, etc.
Reference pictures- please provide. I can look if I need to, but would prefer not to.
Pieces needed/pieces you already have covered, or own
Budget for entire costume
Budget for individual pieces
Which piece is most important to you?
What details of the costume are you okay doing without, and which are essential?
How willing are you to alter, sew, dye or embellish? This includes altering wigs!
How willing are you to buy used clothes (from eBay?)
Is there a deadline?

That's about it! Smiley

Please comment letting me know you sent me PM.

Byeee! Smiley
3  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / Pattern companies online? on: January 26, 2011 01:49:41 AM
I'm surprised there isn't a sticky subject about this.

Other than McCall/Butterick/Vogue, Burda and Simplicity, what are some non-specialty pattern companies whose websites allow people to explore their pattern styles- particularly ones that do not require sign in info?

Thanks. Smiley
4  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Easy way to change zipper placement? on: January 24, 2011 01:26:14 AM
Is there a trick to this? I want to change a back zipper to a side zipper, and am sewing from a pattern.
5  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / Looking For Print Used in Beckerman Sisters Collection on: January 23, 2011 08:55:51 PM
The Beckermans used this print in several different fabrics. I am looking to find information on it, if not a link to purchase it.

Anyone have any tips?

6  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / In search of- VERY unique reptile print fabric with iridescent sequins. on: January 21, 2011 10:14:30 PM
I know this is a long shot, but I was wondering if anybody recognized this fabric, or knew of any lookalikes offhand (I found a few, namely one on eBay.)

Here are some shots:

In my long, long search, I did manage to find a picture of the actual fabric, but it was not for sale. The colors came off a little different.

7  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / Matelasse apparel fabric? on: January 21, 2011 05:59:14 PM
I am recreating a blazer, and noticed the fabric, which was described as a linen, has a matelasse-esque quality to it.

In my searches, I have only found upholestery and bedding fabrics with matelasse. Am I missing something?

Could anyone give me tips? Please note I am making this for someone with a budget, so the fabric can not be too expensive.
8  CLOTHING / Shoes: Discussion and Questions / Hoping for tips or a tutorial... (recreating boots) on: January 21, 2011 05:47:10 PM
I was hoping somebody could do a tutorial on recreating Bobbi Blu halters. They are knee high boots with suede accents.

They were featured in Repo the Genetic Opera and have been discontinued. I am lucky enough to have obtained a pair, but most fans are left doing without, sitting in the corner with jealousy.

Here is a picture:

The correct color combo is the one pictured above, but the blue is actually what I call a blueberry/navy without the flash. Here is a picture without flash:

I have a million billion pictures, but I just wanted you to see the basic idea. Please feel free to PM me or comment here for more pictures if you are willing or interested in posting a tutorial.

You'd be doing a lot of girls a favor! Smiley
9  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / *UPDATED!* Which Pattern is Best? (Receating an Existing Dress) on: January 21, 2011 05:23:58 PM
Hi!
First of all, let me apologize if this is in the wrong section. This is my first post, and I just discovered this site yesterday!

I am very new at sewing, but my seamstress friend is teaching me to sew, and we are doing orders for costumes from Repo the Genetic Opera. (This isn't a very complicated or esoteric piece, so I didn't feel it needed to be in the cosplay section.)

Anyway, I am in between two patterns, and was hoping someone with more experience could give me some insight? I plan on buying the pattern before I meet with my friend.

Here is the dress I am recreating-

I am in between these patterns:

Please let me know what you think, and if you have any additional pattern suggestions.

Thanks a bunch! Smiley
