1  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: What do you call it? on: November 28, 2007 10:32:09 PM
I believe most people call it the heel stitch -- YMMV.

Mienna, I love the brown!  But those colors are all good, so I can see why you're having trouble picking.
3  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: What is the name of that non-stretchy stitch....? on: November 21, 2007 08:08:13 PM
I think those are the same, it has lots of different names.  Just an FYI, you might try swatching with bigger needles than you usually use, or you might get bullet-proof fabric. : )  I made a baby bib in worsted cotton, and I used a US 9 instead of US 7 like I normally do. That stich compresses vertically a LOT.

I'm knitting this one right now in Knit Picks Gloss . . . I think the pattern might be the death of me!  But the yarn is so scrumptiously soft and luscious, I forgive it. : )

I'm planning on knitting this one soon, but unfortunately, I am in the middle of serious gift-knitting.  So it won't be until after the New Year, but I plan on rewarding myself with this sweater for ME!  I, too, will be knitting in acrylic, and I already bought the yarn!  Simply Soft Heather in Truffle, I LOVE their new heather colors.
6  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: Blue Moon Fiber Arts "Bliss" Angora Yarn - heard of it? on: September 21, 2007 01:03:20 AM
Maybe a Calorimetry?  Or a pair of Fetching?  I'm not sure what gauge that yarn gets, but those don't use much yardage.

Swish superwash is merino = verrry soft.  And machine washable to boot!
8  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: working in the round fear on: September 17, 2007 02:20:34 AM
Have you tried Magic Loop for socks?  To me, it's easier to join than DPNs.  I have knit them both ways, but those first few rounds on DPNs are murder!
9  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: Sock knitting with DPN's-Argh! on: August 16, 2007 10:05:53 PM
Yeah, I usually find the first few rows of knitting a sock top-down on DPNS to be evil in the extreme!  But it usually calms down after that.  They're not as "floppy".
10  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: Toe Socks Anyone? on: August 15, 2007 10:38:54 PM
The book Twisted Sisters Sock Workbook has a pattern for toe socks.
