I stopped at a garage sale today on my way home from work - this is the post I had over in the FQ swap Gallery thread:

Now, I want to share something I picked up at a garage sale on my way home from work - this is why I love swaps like the FQ swap we are doing here.  I have a queen sized bed - check this out -

Each of those little squares measures 3/4" x 3/4" - it's all hand-stitched!  The fabric is from original feedsacks and flour bags and so on - you will totally know how thrilled I was when I got to purchase this today for just $20.00 - I know, can you believe it!!

Here's a close up of the little pieces - I love each one of them:

These are the very fabrics that are being reproduced today - now, you can see why I love reproductions from the 30s, 40s and 50s so much!!  I cannot imagine the patience it took to sew this quilt top.  Here is the reverse side of all those tiny, tiny pieces - hand stitched, each one!

Now, I'll have to consult my quilt shop ladies to see how to finish the top and then have it quilted by one of them.  They all have much more experience with such lovely things as this.  I am just so happy - I cannot believe I own it!!   Cheesy Cool

I received from kriSmith in my Group 4 - more great fabrics, none like any of those I have already received!

First, Aliens (eeeeek!) and Peace Out, Baby!

I was a teenager in the late sixties, the peace love fabric is my era!!

Then my favorites of this batch - 1930s-1940s reproduction fabric with sweet little children - I have a collection of reproductions, but I didn't have this one until today- I absolutely love this one!  and Celestial (which was one of the favorites I listed on my questionnaire) - I love this one too:

Thank you, kriSmith!  They are all lovely and so original!!

I am loving all these fabrics!  Such a nice variety - every single one I would love to have as mine!

I received some more FQs today from seabound23 - Group 3.  They arrived all neatly wrapped with ribbon and a felt covered pinback button decorated with a starburst sequin!  Clever girl!

Date night!  and beautiful owls!

and Birds-Flowers-Checks, Classic-looking Candy, and "Girl Power" super heros!

I love all of these too!  My favorites from this batch are Date Night and Birds-Flowers-Checks!

My partners all have great fabric selection abilities - I continue to enjoy being a part of this swap!  Thank you seabound!!

Let me start by saying, this is my favorite swap so far - I like creating for a partner, and I love receiving creations from a partner, but for a fabric crazed woman like me, this FQ swapping reigns supreme!!

I received from erica_tattoos (Group 3) today - more awesome fabrics!!

Wonderful owls, and cute DOD skulls!

AND, fun fun cocktails with FRUIT and the fabric erica_tattoos picked for me, large scale flowers - I LOVE THEM!

The best part of this swap so far, is that several of the FQs I have already received coordinate well together.

Thank you, erica - awesome choices!!

I told you I would post pictures last night - however, I was so tired after my day, I fell asleep before getting those pictures on here.  So here are the pics of the FQs I received from camelama yesterday - this is for Group 4:

Really cute beach themed on the light blue, and sweet little birds with cherries and mushrooms on the pink!  I love both of these:

And, celestial on grey!! This was one of my favorites I listed on my questionnaire; what is really remarkable is camelama found celestial fabric on one of my favorite, favorite colors - grey!  And a navy blue background with squirrels and trees, which is really cute too!

Thank you, camelama - I love all four and will treasure these a while before I cut into them - I love collecting FQs and then sorting them.  These four are just fantastic additions to my collection!  camelama did a great job of picking these fabrics!!

Although I signed up for this quilt-along, I haven't posted on this thread for a really, really long time!  My partner in the MAQ Rd 5 swap received today, and I like this little quilt so much, I had to show you!

This is the layout - in the event I knocked those seed pods off, I would remember the layout I liked:

And the finished front:

I forgot to take pictures of the back - nothing exciting!

My partner likes the mini quilt better upside down, with the seed pods as flower tops, and the sprouts as stems!  That's okay, however she wants to enjoy it is okay by me!  My OCD nature fought with me at the beginning, because I've NEVER done raw edge applique, and uneven, wonky quilting stitches - so far out of my comfort zone for me, but I loved every minute of working on it, telling myself along the way, "relax, it will look fine when finished."  Tongue  I'm too straight-edged for my own good sometimes!  Such self-imposed pressure!!  It was fun to do some free-spirit sewing!

Playswithneedles was an easy partner to create a MAQ for!  She had lots of GREAT pictures on her wist, and this one caught my eye - but, one small thing - it's a MAQ of seed pods with sprouts!  The MAQ pics are upside down -   The original on PWN's wist was labeled "Growth" and it referred to rainbow seeds.  I like the pods with sprouts name better!  This was really outside my comfort zone - I am all  neat and tidy and want no raw edges. However, the artistry of this mini quilt called for raw edge applique and so I sewed it that way - I loved it when I finished, but I kept thinking along the way, "shouldn't I tuck in those raw edges"!!  I'm so happy you like it - I picked the back fabric first, but it was flowers right side up, so the back side is what the flowers might look like, but the front is actually the seeds sprouting!

Here's some pictures I took before sending.  First, the original artist's MAQ -

My in progress shot (I later removed a few pods - TOO MANY)- I took this picture so if I knocked the pods loose, I could remember how I wanted them placed -

Finished front:

Upclose shot of seed pods - look at that wonky stitching!!  I really had to focus doing circles on my machine!!

IMO, this is the best thing I've ever made for a swap.  I absolutely loved doing it, even though my normal OCD self kinda fought with me at the start up.  I'm glad you like it, playswithneedles!

The things I sent for your granddaughter were actually for flip flop embellishment, but your ideas are good too!  However she wants to use them!  I was hoping I matched that super looking bicycle you have, with the water bottle.  Yes, I've used mine - when I walk - it's great!

Thanks for swapping - I had a great time!

18  Re: Sewing Accessories Swap GALLERY! in The Swap Gallery by fiddlegirl8 on: May 31, 2012 05:35:34 PM
I received from my partner, Craftsunderground, today.  I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to buy her a new sewing machine to make up for the wonderfulness she sent me.  Stand by for lots of pictures and lots of praise for my partner.

This is a picture of everything, or so I thought at the time I took the picture:

Here is the Tool Roll that she made me - with my tools already tucked in!  It has an elastic loop on one side so I can roll it up (when I go to a quilt class or a retreat), and keep my tools safe on the way!

Next - she bought me this former toothbrush holder at a thrift shop (I love thrift shops and thrift shop shopping!) - she knitted a matching cozy for it, as it has been transformed to be a tool holder!  It's my favorite color - GREEN!

And - she took a wire coil organizer, and sewed and embroidered a little cover for the end - which says:  Quilters Rule.   You bet they do!  It's an organizer/holder for my quilting rulers.  The really cool thing about this is, and great minds do think alike!, I have one of these very holders, but without the lovely embellished end - which is great, because once I put all my rulers in it, I don't have any spots left for patterns and other idea papers I like to keep handy.  Now I have mine to keep the papers and patterns, and the one she made me will hold my rulers!

One more picture which includes a close up of her beautiful embroidery, and yet another item she made me, right off my Wist - a toad stool (mushroom) pin cushion with fabric and a vintage thread spool - eeeeeeeee!

This little gem was hiding all wrapped up in tissue inside the ruler rack!  That's why the little pincushion doesn't show up in my first "everything" picture.

THEN - she also made me a fob for my scissors - this is Craftsunderground's own design - she is so smart!  It's an elastic cord threaded through a thimble!  eeeeeeeee again!  First, it identifies my scissors (when I'm with others at a quilt class or sewist gathering) - like this:

AND - when traveling, the thimble slips down to hold the pointed ends of my scissors so they won't poke holes in me or my tool roll that she made me - Maria - you are surely an engineer in real life, right!  eeeeeeeee even again!

Okay, that's a whole lot of great stuff, huh!  Oh, there's more where that came from - yes, MORE - she made me a green (favorite color) beaded stiletto - "It's the tool you never knew you needed."  She also made one for her mother, a quilter, and one for herself which she used when making my tool roll.  I definitely did not know I needed one, but I already know NOW that I need it - and she sent me a Fat Quarter of absolutely beautiful BARE BRANCHED TREES batik fabric - I love trees with bare branches, this fabric is perfect.

You would think my partner was sending to two or three partners, not just me!
We agreed to send a "couple" of extras - that's exactly what I did - TWO EXTRAS - how can I ever make it up to you!!

I love everything - Craftsunderground you totally rocked my world with this package.  It's all perfect and all perfectly suited for me.  In addition to being an engineer, you must be able to read a crystal ball because you crafted to my taste and colors perfectly.  Thank you from the bottom of my heart.  I owe you big time!!
You get at least 100 "A+"s on this package!  And a load of gratitude from me!  I think I love you!

Are you ready to see something pretty?  Are you ready to see something pretty amazing?  I received from my partner, playswithneedles!  PWN does more than play with needles - I was delighted and squeeed with glee when I opened this - I took lots of pictures -

my partner took my recent fondness for poppies and this is what she created:

Her note:  "I thought it looked a bit like a placemat so I made a mugrug . . ." !!!   Shocked

Can you believe the generosity of playswithneedles - wow - this is one of the nicest swap packages I have received!

Here they are together - FRONT

BACK

Cindy - your quilting skills are amazing - the binding is perfect, actually all of it is perfect - this is just so pretty - no way am I using it as a placemat - both of these WILL be center stage on my dining room table!  I love them to pieces and I am in awe of your creativity.  YOU ROCK, girl!

My first MAQ swap - Loving every minute!  Cindy - you made it memorable for me.  Thank you to the moon and back!   Cool

20  Re: Dotee Swap #12 - Send out 5/25 in The Swap Gallery by fiddlegirl8 on: May 25, 2012 07:14:15 PM
I also received from mamarose this afternoon!  She created a very fitting dotee for me - it resembles ME!  I have brown hair just about this length and this is the way I normally wear my hair!  The dotee is an angel, and I like to think that's like me too!

another view on a blue background:

Thanks, mamarose!

This was my first time in a dotee swap - fun both ways!   Cheesy
