1  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Re: pretty scarf + old tee = loveliness on: July 18, 2011 08:27:22 AM
First of all the top is awesome and I plan on making one Cheesy
If you don't mind me asking what's with the giant razor blade int the back?

Thank you!

Haha the giant razorblade is a mirror! Cheesy It's made of some thin acrylic/plastic so it's just sticky-tacked to my wardrobe...

The buttons/beads sound like a great idea! I was thinking of stitching the outermost corner on the sleeves too, to leave a little gap in that sort of greek style. But the fabric is just a tiny bit stiff, and I was afraid they'd pop up and look weird. Also noticed when wearing it today, that my bra is fairly visible under the arms. Maybe stitching just a bit under the arm and down to the t-shirt bit would solve that, if you need a work-safe look (in my case I'd just wear a black/matching bra or something).

It'd be a shame to cut up those scarves! Really all you need is a square of fabric. Using a scarf is just simple as their already hemmed and it's easy to find fun designs for cheap.

OMG thanks for all the enthusiasm! I'm totally dying to make other variations on this design, too. If y'all make something from the tutorial, make sure to post (I don't know if you can link your thread to a reply in this one, maybe?) because I'd love to see!

Awesome! Here's a quick tute I threw together. Just ask if anything seems unclear, it's my first tutorial. I'm sure there are a variety of ways to do this, but being a noob, I just winged it! Cheesy

So I haven't done any sewing in a while, but got inspired after browsing the reconstructed section here. I used a really pretty square scarf that I thrifted years ago, but never actually used, and an old t-shirt that fit nicely but had this awful glitter print that I had painted a looong time ago. And with our powers combined, you get THIS:

Super-duper simple. If anyone wants instructions, let me know! Cheesy

WOW! Do want! Thanks for sharing, they look awesome. I will def have to find some feathers/jewels/fun bits and make one of my own. I really like the asymmetrical look with one of these, but haven't seen one to my taste in shops. I guess being crafty kind of solves that problem... Cheesy

The skirt in the first pic is amazing! Great job pairing together materials and making something truly original in shape.

I also really like the last pic, the dress (I'm a little bit crazy about dresses for summer!)
