1  Re: pretty scarf + old tee = loveliness in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by thestarcow on: May 17, 2011 02:06:53 PM
Awesome! Here's a quick tute I threw together. Just ask if anything seems unclear, it's my first tutorial. I'm sure there are a variety of ways to do this, but being a noob, I just winged it! Cheesy

2  pretty scarf + old tee = loveliness in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by thestarcow on: May 17, 2011 12:16:56 PM
So I haven't done any sewing in a while, but got inspired after browsing the reconstructed section here. I used a really pretty square scarf that I thrifted years ago, but never actually used, and an old t-shirt that fit nicely but had this awful glitter print that I had painted a looong time ago. And with our powers combined, you get THIS:

Super-duper simple. If anyone wants instructions, let me know! Cheesy

3  First post and recons! in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by thestarcow on: January 15, 2011 09:03:00 AM
Hello!! I've lurked here for quite a bit, but now that I got a sewing machine for christmas, I can start to contribute, too. I'll start off with my simple reconstructions. They've been great practice both in construction and using the machine, and I wasn't devastated when things went wrong since no precious or expensive materials were used.

So apparently I can't post photos yet, so they're all linked. Hope it works!

First up, my very first clothing project! A dress made from two old t-shirts. There are a couple pleats in the back of the skirt, but they're barely visible. The bows on the shoulders (and the one that's camouflaged on the front of the skirt) are also made from scraps of the two tees.

Second one is an old gigantic moomoo with pretty print, combined with the waist of an old tanktop to get a fluffy summer dress! I've also made a headband with a bow to match, but I don't have pictures of it yet

Third, my newest completed project! Refitted mens' tee with a lime green doilie reverse-appliqued (after this tutorial: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=358315.0 Thanks for the inspiration!). I also remade the sleeves into puffy sleeves with the help of some elastic and fiddly ruffling at the shoulders... Also my first try at sewing darts for m'boobies!

I've currently got a dress project underway (a flapper style doodad made from an old mens' button shirt - reversed for an open back, and an old sheet) and several ideas, most of which are inspired by lurking threads here!
