12  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Re: Aloha! Hawaiian Summer Dress on: June 08, 2013 10:00:28 PM
cute! but you're right, it looks nothing like that vouge pattern lol. I too have the goal of wearing dresses all summer (walmart clearanced a ton of fabric last month and i may have just grabbed every bolt they had  Tongue ) but a messed up wrist has severely hampered my sewing speed so i still have yet to finish anything Sad

hmmmmmm not gonna lie, those aren't very encouraging words lol, i think i may be putting off doing a suit for myself for a while again, maybe i'll try getting some prectice in with stretch fabrics first because i dont work with them much either. i really admire your pattern making skills though, its a beautiful design

ivoryh - 9 screens! I see what you mean now. It looks so great!! What are all the characters you did? I think I see a wolfman? and the creature from the black lagoon? The framing detail is fantastic! And the red background fits that theme perfectly.

Lo{ve} beat me to listing them, i tried soooo hard to do the creature from the black lagoon but i couldnt' find a good side profile that would make an easily recognizable silhouette, he just kept looking like a fish or a blob. but i'm realy glad i did everything on a seperate screen for this one because now i can use them all individually for other designs, and i have plenty in mind

smashu- that topography fabric is so crazy, i am in awe of how well the repeat blends together. how did you get it lined up so perfect?

Recieved fro Lo{ve} today. she sent me this awsome wonder woman fabric

i so love the design, i may have to make myself a stamp of it so I can make matching stuff.

i have this chunk of superhero fabric that i found in the remnants at walmart a while back and have been waiting for inspiration to strike on what to use it for, i think i may have to pair it up with this to make a purse

thank you sooooo much i love it!

Ooh what a neat set of coordinating fabrics! The bee/hex theme is great and perfect for the spring/summer months.

oh and FYI ivoryh - 9 screens !?!?! Can't wait to see what you did!

well they were small screens but yeah the one fabric used 9 different screens, without giving too much away all i'll say is it was kind of a mix and match repeated pattern, oh and i think i may have invented a new technique for making screens

oh wow that block stamped fabric is amazing, i thought i was going overboard making 9 screens for my fabric but they were nowhere near as intricate as those stamps must be
19  SEWING IN GENERAL / Machine Embroidery: Discussion and Questions / Re: Brother SE400 - Newbie here! on: June 05, 2013 05:46:18 PM
Just got my first embroidery machine - Hubby got me the Brother SE400 for Christmas!  I'm so excited to get started with my new toy.   Cheesy

Anyone else have this model that would like to share tips & tricks?

I am thinking of getting the Brother SE400 for a birthday gift.

As an actual owner/user, would you say that it's a worth investing in?

Reviews on Amazon seem very favorable, which is normally a good sign.

I absolutely love love love mine. both for sewing and for embroidery, i think its definitely perfect for beginner embroidery, it does a good size and you can upload designs onto it so you can do a lot without having to buy one of the expensive embroidery machines. it sews beautifully, super smooth and quiet and has all the nice little stuff like the needle threader and cuts the thread for you. it comes with a bunch of feet which is nice and the cheapy "Distinctive" brand of feet from amazon fit on it so i don't have to spend a lot if i want other fancy feet. its fairly easy to use straight off the bat and i'm still learning new things, like last night i found out that it can do a pretty descent overlock with the cool overlock foot it came with, saved me a bunch of hassle. the only thing i can think of that's been a downside is sometimes the instructions take a couple times reading it through to figure it out and i haven't found a whole lot of tips and tutorials for it online so you might need a bit of patience when learning a new setting. but i'm seriously so happy i got mine and would recomend it to anyone
