11  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Clowns are creepy (featuring more turkey stitch than I anticipated) on: January 19, 2013 09:55:08 PM
I've been doing embroidery pieces of horror movie stuff for a while and a while ago, I did a small portrait of Pennywise from Stephen King's "It" in a 4" frame, but I always thought I needed to do a bigger and creepier version (not that that freaking clown can get any creepier). Turns out that bigger also meant way more turkey stitch than I originally thought (this hairstyle took two full skeins of floss - every time I do something in turkey stitch, I hate how long it takes, but then I love to be able to pet it when it's done)

I LOVE the Samara one!  How did you do the hair?

It's saran (plastic) doll hair - I just worked with little plugs of it, rooting it through the fabric with a regular needle - I went in through the front and brought it back out. I also put a teeny dot of glue on the back to hold it in place (but I don't think it would come out unless someone was pulling on it or trying to style it)

I accidentally got myself started on a series of pieces of scenes from creepy movies. Now I'm kind of obsessed with finding scenes that are creepy, but do-able - and lets be real, creepy movie kids are almost as bad as clowns, am I right?

Here is Samara from The Ring dropping by to watch a little tv

this is a really cool idea - I love pieces that have different textures - did you sew the beads on individually or did you sew on strings of them?
17  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Come Play With Us For Ever and Ever and Ever - two pieces based on "The Shining" on: April 09, 2012 02:32:18 PM
For me, one of the scariest parts of "The Shining" was when Danny was peddling around on his Big Wheel in that deserted hotel - the sound of his peddling, the low perspective, it builds up the suspense like WHOA - so I thought it might be cool to do a little piece with that terrible carpeting

When I was done with that, I knew I needed to do the Grady twins, too, because those chicks were creepy as hell

18  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Oh, you fancy, huh? on: March 05, 2012 12:23:38 PM
My son listens to a lot of rap, hip hop and R&B music and sometimes those lyrics just get stuck in my head.

And sometimes they get stuck in my head when I'm in the middle of a craft store, staring at fluffy little Easter craft supplies.
