I may be the only person on the planet who hasn't started watching this show, but this piece is really great!
5  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Re: Clowns are creepy (featuring more turkey stitch than I anticipated) on: January 25, 2013 12:25:51 AM
I kind of discovered turkey stitch by accident, I was trying to do a pompom and wanted it to have more texture than just a flat stitch. It and french knots take so much time and are so frustrating, but I love the way they look in the end.

I'm dying to see a Lionel Richie piece. Dying!

this is amazing, I could stare at it all day!
7  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Gremlins! on: January 25, 2013 12:22:13 AM
I did this piece a couple months ago, but it's been sitting in a hoop in my spare room since I finished it because I couldn't figure out how to frame it - I bought a couple different frames from Ikea and nothing worked - finally, I played musical frames with a few of my thrift store frames and decided that this one suited it best.

I had initially planned on doing this whole piece in black silk stitches, but then I had to do the 3-D glasses in color, then I didn't want that to be the only color in the piece, so I decided to do the popcorn in french knots. And the hash marks all around were kind of an afterthought - I was just going to do the gremlin, but I thought the piece needed a little more space and I was just doing single stitches, but I didn't really plan them out all the way (like so many things in my life), and they weren't as even as I would have wanted, so they became hash tags and I kind of like that because I think it gives it sort of a sketch quality.

Also, when I was a kid, I would have sold a kidney to own a gremlin, those things are so freaking cute!

Shaun of the Dead is one of my favorite movies! I love both of these - I want to try watercolor for tinting now!
