i have OODLES of stray pieces and cheap cast off puzzles. and once i got over the oh what if i mess up i was fine...

removed one eye and made it a dangly one. red cross stitch thread.

cheap-o dollar store deer plush. altered with felt.

removed one leg and gave him a fiber-filled bone leg to stand on.

gash in side with exposed ribs and neck gash, also felt.
