thanks heaps! I think i will spray paint it a pale pink, and the 'edges' gold to match a tea set i'm going to get. I'm not sure what its made of  Huh its in worse condition than i thought, hinges are unattached, but can't complain really  Wink hope it turns out ok! I have another project to finish first, then hopefully will get stuck on this one.
What is anthropology? Im an aussie, im not sure if it is a store? sorry  Tongue

Oh! Sounds cute! You could mod podge wall paper to it as well if it's in really bad condition. Hinges are easy enough to put back on!
I meant to write anthropologie, it is a store, I know it's international, though I'm not sure where exactly. Here's a link to those fancy nobs I was talking about: http://www.anthropologie.com/anthro/catalog/category.jsp?popId=HOME&navAction=top&navCount=5&isSortBy=true&pushId=HOME-HARDWARE&id=HOME-HARDWARE

I love it, I might have to try this!

Cut them into 1-inch pieces and cover with yarn, they make really cute and expensive looking napkin holders.
I found this site right now when I searched for an example:

I agree. I would separate the pieces for your fabric collection and use the vinyl on different projects.
Bags are always a great idea, jewelry, wall art, if you know any expectant mothers, a blanket pad would be nice. (just a large piece that goes under a blanket, in case the baby has an accident).

I made this with an old textbook. A pumpkin centerpiece! I've seen Christmas tree ones too!

Or hollow them out, recover and attach card stock inside to make scrapbooks. I made those as Christmas gifts.

I've seen that same idea except placing it over softbound books on a shelf to give a cleanser more intellectual look to the shelf.

Ooh! I've always wanted one to make a pet bed!
So lucky! All the antique stores around here want $60-70 for one and they are beyond unusable!
Anyway, what's the out side material?
You could just clean it and spray paint it. Or take off the "edges" and attach fabric over it with spray adhesive. And then reattach them. Maybe be creative with the handle, buy a fancy door nob one from anthropology and just screw it in!
Post pix if you do something fun with it!
168  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / Re: big blue vodka bottles on: January 10, 2011 10:39:52 PM
I dont know anything about building benches so unfortunately I can't help you there.
But if you happen to have an extra one left over, for my anniversary (my bf is a big wine drinker) I took a a bottle, soaked it in warm water and soap until the label came off, and etched the word 'love' in 30 (50???) languages and filled it with scraps of paper with reasons why I loved him. (difficult to impossible to get out) but still cute and sentimental. He loved it by the way. I figured I'd throw that idea out there since those blue bottles would be beautiful etched and valentines day is coming up.

...maybe you could do something similar and fill it with reasons why your friend should stop drinking? Wink (but then where would you get those pretty bottles!?) jk. Cant wait to see this finished bench!
