12  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Thanks KwiltyKate! on: January 25, 2011 11:01:22 PM
KwiltyKate very kindly taught me how to quilt last night.  She patiently explained each part of the process and then let me use her machines (!) to complete most of the quilt.  She did do the harder parts for me but I can say this is my first project, properly quilted.

13  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Re: A couple of purses on: January 21, 2011 10:47:57 AM
Thanks - they were so much easier than I expeceted.  Next time I will probably use a heavy duty outer fabric and skip the plastic, it will make it much easier Wink

I tried my hand at using the clear plastic to make a couple of purses for myself and my daughter.  The plastic was a bit harder than I was expecting, I don't have a walking foot yet, but I'm pretty happy with the results.

15  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / My first attempt on: January 20, 2011 11:55:46 PM
I thought after taking up sewing 2 years ago and trying my hand at all sorts of things I would try to quilt.  I used the scraps of my favorite fabrics and might need to be a bit more careful of my measurements next time  Undecided

It is a coffee plunger warmer and it is only missing the buttons in the photo.

17  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / Re: New Sewer - Overwhelmed :-/ on: January 08, 2011 06:49:16 PM
I was the same, only sewed at school, but I had a sewing machine and hardly ever used it!  But two years ago I decided I wanted to try it out and since then I have been making lots of things, and by trial and error have taught myself.  I have a number of friends IRL that I chat to and ask lots of questions which helps.  I have only just found this site and it would have been much easier if I had two years ago.

But I have learnt that pretty much everything can be fixed when sewing, just takes time and a lot of unpicking when I make a mistake!
18  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / Re: waterproof fabric on: January 08, 2011 06:43:09 PM
I make waterproof diaper/nappies for my little girl and use PUL fabrics - they are either cotton or polyester fabrics with a layer of laminate on the back.  It is only slightly thicker than normal fabrics and very easy to use.  I've made wetbags and little makeup bags with it and it looks like a normal liner.
19  NEWS AND DISCUSSION ABOUT CRAFTSTER / Introduce Yourself / Another Aussie Newbie on: January 07, 2011 03:28:17 AM
I've just been told about this site by a friend of mine, so I thought I would join and have a wander around.  WOW - I love this place  Cheesy
A bit of background about me: I am a married mum of two beautiful girls and work as a high school science teacher.  In my spare time I hide in my sewing room trying to work out how to do things with my sewing machine and undoing the mistakes I make.
I show off my achievements in my blog as well as randomly ramble in there as well.
So thats about it I guess, now I just have to work out the rest of the site
