Details of swap:

I am starting to get in the holiday spirit and thinking how fun it would be to have a ton of small items to "fill up my stocking" for the holidays.

If you read this swap prior to the updates, please accept my sincere apology for the update.  I was in a hurry to get it posted as a "Quickie" swap and hadn't thought through what I envisioned, nor taken the time to query interested participants to come to consensus before posting.  Mea culpa.  I'm sorry.  Hopefully the additional notes below provide clarification.

This swap is for 1 small item** (must include some handmade / crafted aspect - for "fill a mug", for example).

**For the purposes of this swap, a "small" handcrafted item should EITHER be something that took you between 45 minutes and 2 hours to make, OR should include $2 worth of items with the small handcrafted item.

Examples:
  • A felt ornament that took 15 minutes to make, plus one $2 item
  • A bookmark that took 5 minutes, plus two $1 items
  • A mug rug that took 45 minutes to make
  • Three felt ornaments that each took 15 minutes to make
  • A bookmark that took 10 minutes, a felt ornament that took 15 minutes, plus a basic mug rug that took 20 minutes to make
  • A $1 mug with a $1 packet of hot cocoa in it and a felt ornament that took 15 minutes to make
  • A basic scarf that took 2 hours to make
  • An elaborately embellished felt ornament that took 45 minutes to make

You can have 1 or 2 partners.   Items do NOT need to be customized to your partner (that way everyone can get a head start if you so desire, and if recipients don't like, hopefully they can/will re-gift), and they should not be specific to a particular belief.

PLEASE try to avoid potential allergens if possible (nuts, etc.), and if your item contains something that could be an allergen, be sure to note that via an "ingredients" tag or attached note!

Since we're hoping to fill up each others' stockings / advent calendars / what have you, PLEASE WRAP YOUR ITEM prior to sending!  It is recipient's choice on when to open, and for the sake of feedback I will consider the swap 'met' if your partner has received their wrapped item (please DO post pictures of the wrapped item, and update your post with pics of the contents once you've unwrapped it).

Ideas:

- Mug Rug
- Felt (or other) Ornaments
- Snack food or other type of 'gift in a jar'
- "Fill a mug" gift

3  Category Challenges / Cooking: Challenge Entries / Easy-peasy + delicious crock pot breakfast casserole! on: November 23, 2014 06:32:42 AM
Here in Blacksburg, Virginia, home of the Virginia Tech Hokies, we do a lot of tailgating.  And when the team isn't doing so well (*cough* this year *cough*), the games are often around noontiime... Which means breakfast tailgating.  Now, I don't know about you, but I am NOT an early morning person, so the last thing I want to do is jump out of bed to make a bunch of food to take to a tailgate!  Which is where this awesome recipe comes in.  You basically throw it into the crock pot the night before and wake up & eat!

This recipe is straight from here, but I did make a couple of changes (adding in some shredded pepper jack cheese, using spicy breakfast sausage instead of italian sausage, adding some garlic powder Smiley ).

Slow Cooker Sausage Breakfast Casserole

Ingredients:

1 (30 oz) package frozen shredded hash brown potatoes
1 lb ground sausage (I used spicy breakfast sausage), browned and drained
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1 cup shredded pepper jack cheese
1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
1 onion, diced
1 green pepper, diced
1 red pepper, diced
12 eggs
1/2 cup milk
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

Directions:

Spray a 6 quart slow cooker with non-stick cooking spray (you cannot make this recipe in a smaller crock pot because it wont fit). Layer 1/2 of the potatoes on the bottom of slow cooker.

Top with half of the (pre-cooked!  that's important) sausage, cheeses (mix them together), onions, green peppers, and red peppers. Repeat the layers again. Or, do what I did, and forget one of the layers, try to dig out / down to add it, then wind up just mixing everything together until the next step...  Grin

Beat eggs, milk, salt, pepper, and garlic powder in large bowl with a wire whisk until well blended. Pour egg mixture evenly over potato-sausage mixture.

Cook on low setting for 8 hours or until eggs are set.  Wake up and enjoy!  Or... if you were doing something else, you could cook it on a high setting for 4 hours.  But, I can't think why you'd ever want to!   Cheesy

4  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Quickie Stocking Stuffer Swap? on: November 21, 2014 08:06:39 PM
Hey, so I am starting to get in the holiday spirit and thinking how fun it would be to have a ton of small items to "fill up my stocking" for the holidays.  I'm thinking 1 small item, you can have 1-2 partners, signups by 11/28 (1 week!) and mail-outs by 12/12.    Items would NOT need to be customized to your particular partner (that way everyone could get a head start if they so desired, and if recipients don't like, hopefully they can/will re-gift), and they should NOT be specific to a particular belief.

Ideas:

- Mug Rug
- Felt (or other) Ornaments
- a Snack food or other type of 'gift in a jar' or the like
- "Fill a mug" type of gift

Anyone interested?
5  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Stuff a small flat rate box - Winter Holidays ? on: November 12, 2014 05:11:28 PM
Hi everyone!  I'd participated in a "stuff a small flat rate box" for Halloween swap a couple of years ago, and as I stood in line, seemingly forever, at the post office today and was looking at the flat rate packages, it reminded me of that swap.  These cost $5.95 to send, and you can put as much stuff as you can fit inside and send it for that rate.  https://store.usps.com/store/browse/uspsProductDetailMultiSkuDropDown.jsp?productId=P_SMALL_FRB&categoryId=priority-mail.  This would be a US swap only, since the price quadruples for a small flat rate box to go internationally (price goes to ~$20 to send to Canada).

Here are links to the past swaps:

This would be a pretty quick one ...  Signups ending 11/28 and send by 12/12 probably.... Anyone interested?
6  Category Challenges / Occasions and Holidays: Challenge Entries / A very Oogie Boogie Halloween on: November 03, 2014 06:07:18 PM
I decided to carve Oogie Boogie from a Nightmare Before Christmas.  I like how he came out!

Here's a couple of pics right after I carved him, and before I lit the candle & turned off the lights

7  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Constellation swap? on: October 19, 2014 06:52:20 PM
Inspired by these amazing mini hoops on Etsy, I wondered if anyone might be interested in a constellation swap.  I wouldn't limit it to hoops - you could make pretty much anything as long as it incorporated one of your partner's desired constellations.  I'm thinking a medium size item, but appreciate feedback on that thought.
8  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Craft with a fat quarter swap round 3? on: October 12, 2014 02:06:19 PM
I was looking at projects for fat quarters and thinking what fun it would be to do a swap where we exchange projects made from FQ's.  Of course, Craftsters have already thought of that!  It hasn't been done in a while, any interest in another round?

9  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Faux Taxidermy - introducing Sheldon, the Shoebill Crane on: October 08, 2014 05:50:53 PM
Hi everyone!  I made a project that I think came out pretty cool, so I wanted to post & share it here.  It is a mixed-media paper mache of a shoebill crane.

Meet Sheldon:

(picture taken by the swap recipient, artsycandice)

I originally wanted to do a standing 'taxidermy' crane, so I made the shape for a full body with legs:

I wanted the legs to be crane-like, so I cut them in half, taped, and paper mached them as well:

He went in the oven to hurry the drying process - that seemed to take forever!

I tried him in the base and... he stood!!! (YAAAAY!)

But... not for long... (Boooo...)

So I had to switch directions and make him a mounted head instead.  I frayed up some fabric for 'feathers' My fingertips were numb, but I had to keep going, it was looking pretty good!

I thought he was about done, so I took some glamour shots

But then I realized that he needed some work around the bill (where the fabric attached) and some crown feathers, to match the inspiration pics I'd been looking at.  So a bit more mache-ing (pieces of tissue paper painted onto the seam of the bill & the fabric), painting, fraying, sewing, and gluing, and he was ready to go.

I hope you like him!
