51  Re: Ongoing ATC Swap - January 2013 Gallery! in The Swap Gallery by cabaute on: January 29, 2013 05:04:58 PM
Oh. My. Gosh.  The artistry.  That is all I can say.  Our gallery is blowing my mind, and really making me want to up my game.  I noticed there are some classes coming up at the local Y...!

I received a really fun card from Cindy (Homerof2) for my VEGETABLES Theme!  It is my first 3-d(ish) card, made of fabric, with sewn on carrot buttons!!!  Isn't it adorable?

Thank you so much, Cindy!!!

I hit a multi-card jackpot again today Grin

First, an incredible Lakshmi card from SunnyDawn:

I was actually thinking that maybe I should change my "goddesses" theme to be Hindu gods and goddesses, because they are some of my favorites.  You must have read my mind!  Lakshmi has such a great vibe. I love the details surrounding her, and the smiling sun.

The second card is another for my animal group names theme (I am so happy to have gotten a few of these!), it is a KNOT of FROGS!  Another one that I didn't know before!!! Cheesy

I have been getting more and more interested in paper coloring and decorating techniques.  If you look at the backdrop you will see what a fantastic job Oath Keeper did with this (I'm dying to know what materials you used to create this gorgeous effect)!  I just ordered some Adirondack Color Wash Dye and some Gel Sticks... I hope I can create some awesome textures and colors like this eventually Smiley

Thank you so much, ladies!  I love them!!

I love the first mail day after a holiday... I felt like I hit the jackpot, with two envelopes awaiting me!!

The first was from Sadie (Leather and Lace), an AWESOME card for my Animal Groups theme...  Wait for it...

How fun is that?!  So. Perfect.  I love the originality of the "animal" (are ameobas an animal?  how would you classify ameobas? Hm....) and the way that the word "ooze" is actually oozing Cheesy
And, it came in one of those awesome little slip covers (love that!).  She sent along an extra paper, too, which is really nice.
Here's a little shot with the extra in it:

Next are TWO cards from Alynna (Susie Apple), the one she signed up for and an extra!  The first one is for my SKULLS theme:

I love the sugar skulls - this is right up my alley, and I love these colors.

Here is the "extra" card - for my Vegetables theme, an Okra card.  I was just talking to John this weekend about how much I miss being able to grow okra.  I used to grow it when we lived near Atlanta, GA and it grew like gangbusters, but when I tried to grow it here in Virginia it took forever to produce pods, and then I only got one or two.  It's one of my favorite vegetables.

Alynna, on both of your cards I love the way you did the layering; it is perfectly balanced and gives the cards such dimension.  I don't know how well they show up in this picture, but the sparkles on the Okra card are really beautiful!

AND... I got more extras!!  Two more papers to use on future ATCs, and also everything came in an incredible hand-made envelope that I felt guilty about even trying to open, for fear of tearing it!  Once I got it open I was able to carefully peel off the addresses (which were on separate attached papers) and can reuse the paper now from that too Cheesy  Here's a pic - I didn't want to reveal the address information to everyone on the internet (took the pic before trying to save the paper), so you can just see the envelope in the back.

I realized from these past few envelopes that came in that I've been SO scroogy on my send-outs!  I didn't even think to toss in extras - it doesn't take much, and based on how much I have personally appreciated the ones sent to me, if I can do that for someone else, it is totally worth it!  So... Please accept my apology, to the 5 partners I already sent to!!!  And, lesson learned.  I'm excited to pick out some little goodies from now on (I am realizing as I think about it and start to get psyched about picking things out that it's part of the fun!).

54  Re: Prayer Flag Swap Rd. 2 GALLERY! in The Swap Gallery by cabaute on: January 20, 2013 09:49:27 AM
Oh my gosh.  I love all the flags so much!!!  And I have one more to share with you (drumroll, please)!

I received a beautiful DUAL flag from flyraeven yesterday!  It was like an early birthday present (my birthday is today).  She said that she wound up making multiples, after the first one got ruined, to try to get one she liked, so I got two flags out of the deal  Grin

I really love the little happy faces on each side of the flag, they make me smile just looking at them!

Here is the first side:

"Plant what brings you JOY", with perfect fabrics and colors (and those adorable smiling peaceful faces)!

And, the second side (I can't call either one the "front" or the "back" - they are both awesome!)

A hand painted garden scene, with a stone path leading to JOY Cheesy

I love it so much...  Today there's a huge amount of snow on the ground here, and this has me happily thinking of the green and growth of my garden and the seasons to come.
Thank you, flyraeven!

Yay!  The first 2 cards I sent made it!!  Smiley  So happy that they arrived safely and ya'll like them.

Last night when I checked the mail it was like my birthday had come early (my birthday is today) - I got three incredible cards!!

The first two, amazing watercolors (with a super cute card!!) from jillybeans:

These came in little plastic slips, which was super nice (hey... I need to get some of those!).  They feature a ribbon with the animal name.  I really love the one with the giraffes - in addition to having AMAZING coloring, they are slightly 3-d - the giraffes are separate papers mounted on top of the background.  I love the rays of blue coming from the two Canada geese.  We see those as they migrate through each fall.  Hm... I'm going to go back and get better closeups and post thumbnail links to them as an edit in a minute.  You can't see all the details from this shot.  (Stand by!) Smiley
Here we go:

The third card is a sweet creation by fancybutch!

I had NO idea that a group of flies was called a "business" - I love that!  That's part of why I love learning about interesting animal group names; some of them are so funny and unique.  Robin drew in each tiny suitcase and put them on a very executive blue and grey striped background. Cheesy

Thank you SO much, jillybeans and fancybutch!  I LOVE what you created!!

I also received today from PerfectlyBohemian!  I have to say, I cannot believe how incredibly talented she is.  The level of detail would take me years to do.  I'm including the one big pic of the whole thing, with the smaller thumbnails so you can check out the detail work.  Amazing.  The word - the peaceful meditator the fabrics and stitching - so beautiful and perfect.

Detail of the lotus flower   Detail of the decoration in the lower left-hand corner:    The amazing stitches on the lettering:    The back:

Thank you SOOOO much, Jessica.  It is beautiful!!!

57  Re: Theme Box Swap Gallery and Discussion in The Swap Gallery by cabaute on: March 14, 2012 06:02:39 PM

Finally I am set up and able to get pics posted!  I am so sorry, Sugarsandwitch, for the delay.  You spoiled, spoiled, spoiled me and I can't wait to share the awesomeness with everyone.

People would be really upset if I posted all the pics I took (I think I took 20-30 pics total!), so for the full experience check out the pics in my gallery.   This is still going to be really pic heavy though, there is just so much to share!

>>NOTE:  Shoot!  Craftster Photo hosting is giving me fits now, and I haven't gotten all the pics uploaded.  I'll keep trying, you simply must see all the awesome...<<

Here's a full list of everything that was in the box:
- Incredible Hunger Games Woodburned hanging
- Sweet hand drawn fairy in a gorg frame
- "Believe", "Wish" and awesome blue stars (these are going near my "jar of stars" / earlier swap!)
- Star candles and mini star playing cards
- Handy lingerie bag (this will be great to have, versus using the plastic bags in the hotel rooms)
- Hand crafted gnomie with sweet blonde braid
- A "stars" themed bag (this will be great for groceries!)
- A gorgeous hand painted & decorated travel first aid kit (SO useful!  I'm constantly traveling and it's a pain not to have little things like band-aids, aspirin, etc.)
- A fairy suncatcher, hand made by her son (sweet!!)
- A wooden Buddhist Mala (prayer necklace)
- classic pink flower cards (always nice to have, to send with swaps!)
- A Garden sign - "Keep off the dirigible plums" (Harry Potter)
(YES, I'm STILL GOING!  Can you believe how lucky I am?!)
- Bits n' bobs, which include:
  - carrot gardening themed earrings
  - tricolor holly leaf earrings
  - An awesome Hunger Games bracelet (I was so sorry to hear about the trials you had with that one, sugarsandwitch!  It is gorgeous just the way it is with the Arrow, the cornucopia, Pres. Snow's white rose and Peeta's pearl)
- Hand made puppy snax which my dogs ate right up (who can say no to puppy eyes?!)
- PERSONALIZED Harry Potter letter!  It is the acceptance into Hogwarts, with the uniform, course book list, other equipment, and all!!! (Yippee!)
- OH!  And, origami instructions, so fun!

And now for pics of some of my favorites (there's just no way I could include pics of everything, it would totally crash folks' computers with all the shots!!!)

Hunger Games (I think this is my favorite - is it bad to pick favorites?  I just love it!  So awesome):

The Hunger Games bracelet and gardening / holly earrings:

The hand drawn Fairy:

The seasonally awesome season-changing art (it was hard to get good pics of this one, but you can get the idea of the changes):

I'll keep working to get the other pics, I want to show you the awesome little gnomie!  Only the pic of her back and sweet braid made it so far...

Thank you so much, sugarsandwitch, you spoiled me rotten!  You have an awesome set of different talents, I wish I were so talented.
