I love the bright colors on black. Even though you might consider it one of your mistakes, I adore the fact that all the pinwheels are not perfectly centered. It's what caught my eye in the thumbnail and it looks even better up close. A field of pinwheels would never be perfectly aligned. It gives your piece movement, I just love all of it. Thanks for sharing.
Beautiful and very clever! I especially like the brass birds' nest and the glass pendants on the bottoms of the bamboo. But what are the things that look like brass bowls inside the cage?
Came with the cage. I would think the cage would have to be decorative because it is so small, but it has a perch and two bowls for food and water inside. There are better pics from my swap partner in the gallery. That pendant at the bottom is from a purse I owned in high school, and it was the perfect weight. My husband teases me about being a hoarder.
I've never seen anything like this. Where did you learn to do it?
There are several vendors on etsy. I ran across them when I was looking for something to do with the cool vinyl I had picked up at yard sales. There are some cool sites where people created books and scrapbook pages too. I figured it out from the pic. I think I did my lining different. I used bias tape to clean up the edges.
Just finished a swap with found/recycled wind chimes. So fun!! You should check out the whole gallery, http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=379325.0;all. The bird cage was a "found item", the bamboo rods were originally a table runner that had been left out in the rain and the twine had to be thrown away. The bamboo worked out great and sounded really nice.
I made this a little while ago for a newbie swap, but just now posting. I found the purple fabric first, and then couldn't stop until I found some Elvis vinyl. I have this one completed and another half way done. This was the first record purse I made, so it's not perfect, but I was pretty happy with it, and my swap partner seemed to like it.
Thanks for taking a look!
I don't have a very good pic of the handles, they are braided pleather.
Finally posting pics, Sorry it took so long Kittymom13. This weekend totally got away from me.
I wish my Nana was still around to see this one. She was in a kitchen band and she would have been very jealous. It reminds me of the instruments she used to make, and it sounds like it too. I wish we could upload sound files so you could all hear it!
Received my wind chime today. I can't post pics until tomorrow. I love it, very creative. I have wanted a wind chime for a while, but definitely did not want a store bought one. It's prefect. I am so impressed with everyon's creativity. I love using recycled materials because it makes you think more creatively. I also love an excuse to collect things that I find at yard sales and thrift stores. I have a very awsome Richard Nixon decorative plate that is screaming for me to make a tiered treat dish out of it. I had been holding that bird cage for almost a year after I initially found it. So cute, but the right project never presented itself until this one. I had so much fun! Bravo again to everyone, great stuff!!!!
Fantastic!! I love it!!! Is that stained glass or stones? I love the pop of color. Great job, can't wait to see what everyone else comes up with. I will be constructing this week/weekend -planning and sketching complete.
sounds like you've been busy, roniwink! =] And having fun, with the project, anyway. Sorry to hear about the weather...and is the flooding down there nearby?? I hope not! We are in sandy area and the water drains right off. But we've had enough wind to keep the chimes busy...
Luckily I'm not near any large bodies of water, but there are a lot of problems with flooding closer to St. Louis. We actually had a sunny day today!!! AND we're supposed to get 3 days in a row without rain Sun-Tuesday, that will be the longest stretch without rain in over a month. My sister-in-law has forgotten about be, I am going to have to harass her this week and get my project finished.
