11  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Completed Projects / Dreadlawk Fauxhawk on: June 20, 2007 10:05:20 PM
Mohawks look dreadful on me... ^__~

wahaha I'm so punny. o__0;;;

anyways. I hadn't done anything fun with my dreads for quite a while...so lately i've been ridiculously bored.

I'd planned to tie ribbons in them, so I gave them a thorough washing and tea rinse..which was lovely, by the way. I loves me dr. bronners.  Kiss

But if any of you ladies/gents have dreads, you'll know how gross it is when your damp hair traps all the heat and humidity in. *DEATH*

way too hot to deal with that foolishness. (indeed, I DID say foolishness)

ugh, so I started to tie my hair up in itself and played with it until I got to this. I had fun, and now I have a great hot-weather, funky hairstyle!

YAAAAY!!!

HUZZAH!!!

YATTAA!!!

 Cool
okay, so here we are with the piccies!

first, my best shot, taken when I was finally un-lazy enough to take out my tripod...the best view I could get of myself...to show it's not just a strange bump on my head whilst seeing my face...

Next, the cliche, "i'm oh-so-original and exciting" pose.

Oh, and here's my hair in a couple of its other forms.

down, a bit too close-up...ah well. also ignore the awkward position of my nose ring....it pisses me off every time I look at this photo! AAAAAAAAARGH.

anyway.

and side-bun-whatever

okay, that sucked quite a bit, but I hope you could get some idea of how my hair is when it's down. It varies from chin-length in the front to below-shoulder all the way in the back...I still have no idea how that happened...ah well

I'm so excited! I mean, it's holding up well! these pics are from today, 3 days after putting my hair up!

I don't really have anybody to bask with...I sent the boyfriend a pic and he says that he thinks I'm beautiful no matter what I have exploding from my head.  Tongue

My head will be exploding like this pretty often, so he'll get used to it. ^o^

wow, I love you all so much! I'll take your tips into consideration when I make my next one. Really, it was so fun to see something so complicated come together for me ^__^. But I'd also love to not get "the pokies" any more, so that pre-cut/metal tip thing sounds pretty nice. It was soooooo annoying to try and sit. And yes, otakon is the con in baltimore...HUUUUUGE. This year I think they had an attendance cap of 22,000. It's great being surrounded by social rejects like myself ^__~.

Oh, and thank you for reviving my semi-dead topic, it makes me very happy ^__^.

wow I was just checking my email and reaized I had a response to this post. That's crazy ^__^;;; PAGE 3!!! Anyway, I used a simplicity pattern that I modified a bit. It told me to use one layer of fabric, but I used three instead. One of my outer fabric (it was kinda stretchy and gross, but felt nice), some random duck cloth that didn't match at all (it was olive green o__O;;Wink and the polka dotted lining. I kind of just struggled along and made mistakes and learned how to cover it up(the lace...shhhh). It was actually really fun and I'm looking forward to making another one when I go home on winter break.

oh, and I also tried to make the curves a little bit extra curvy, and made sure the eyelets were reinforced enough to lace them nice and tight. There's also this special way of lacing it, that I'm sure I botched very nicely, that makes sure the smallest part is at the waist. I think you can see it pretty well in the pic of the back in my initial post. But essentially, this corset was mainly a large amount of mistakes that somehow came together as something nice ^__^. I'm sure one of the corset gurus can give REAL advice. ^__^;;.

Thanks all of you for your comments and advice!

waaaai thank you all for your responses! I'll test out all the ideas for my hair over the next few days.

I'm so excited about otakon, I want it to be great so I can remember it when I go back to college in september *weep*

I've been going to cons for about 6 years or so, but this is the first time I've made such an elaborate costume, so I'm excited. Also, my mom won't be able to talk about how weird I dress for once ^__^;;; I dress semi-lol much of the time, that way nobody mistakes me as normal ^__~

Now lets take a moment to pretend someone's actually watching this thread and respond!!!

Punk loli is definitely awesome - check out H. Naoto.
gaaah loli clothing is so expensive, so I suppose it's good that I can't fit into anything. I love looking at all those designer sites and smirking about how I can make it ^__^ makes me love craftster so much *hugs everyone*

Are you going to wear a petti coat underneath or just the way it is?
I have a petti underneath already. >__<;;; I only have one, so it works with all my other skirts, but this one's huge and is hardly poofed at all by it. I've been thinking of making a new one, so I'm on the lookout for some cheap netting so I can make a quick one this week.

That's so cute.
You're gonna look so hot Cheesy
And different! I don't think there are many black girls into anime, not that I'm an expert or anything.

It's true, but that's why such big cons are nice, you see all sorts of people sharing a common interest. Yay for diversity!

Thank you all so much for your kind responses! I had so much fun making this outfit, so it's nice to have some reassurance before I wear it out in the world. Plus I'm a crazy forum-lurker, so when I finally get the courage to post something, I check back on it all the time like a loser Q__Q;;; It's nice to know that I'm not just talking to myself ^__^, so if anyone has any questions or comments they're very appreciated.

I  definitely just posted about otakon! I'll keep an eye out for you and your ultra-kawaii hat! Yaay for otaku!

...like having a corset in a loli outfit.

Okay, here's the deal. I'm going to Otakon this friday and saturday. (for those sad souls who dunno what that is, google it. tis an anime convention <3<3<3) I love cosplaying, but it's difficult for me. It's the only time I would really like to be thinner and lighter >__<;;;, as there are no large, black anime women I know of, I'm giving up and doing a generic punk lolita style outfit (of course, I could always go as the 5th member of Paradise Kiss, but I'd have to make some sort of sign >__< I'm not willing to do that ^__^;;; ) . Anyway, I came up with this. I made the skirt, corset, and petti, but not the shirt...I may make one though...
(the bathroom was the only place I could hang my poor, unfinished form...but I gave her a neck and stand for the picture, she'd be very upset if everyone on craftster knew she was neckstand-less...shhhh)

...and check out my hot eyelets. They weren't strong enough originally, (tore my test fabric to shreds)so I stitched over them for strength. Those things took forever and taught me the the value of a thimble (which, of course, I couldn't find when I needed it *tears* too bad I didn't take any pics of my bruised fingers)

Those of you who are familiar with loli are probably cringing at my rule-bending. "GAAAH" you say, "loli are innocent and do not wear their undies on the outside" and to that I have a couple responses.

1. I'm much too large to wear those boxy, girly tops some loli wear. I'd look like a potato T__T;;;;
2.I love corsets and wanted an excuse to make one (plus I killed some scissors on the steel boning, so I might as well wear it .__.;;;
3.Its punkloli, so I'm a rebel anyway, rawr!
4. The loli police will never be able to catch me ^____^

I doubt any of you were actually thinking that before I decided to draw attention to myself...I'm just making myself feel better...anyways, I'm rambling...

I'm wearing that spiked collar/choker with it, along with some awesome swirly tights and low, borderline orthopedic dress shoes ~__~.  I also made this hat, that I loved at first, but hate now....Ignore the fact that I look like I smell something bad...I dunno what was happening o___O

If I don't wear this, what should I do with my hair?  My dreads are curl-able if need be, and I can do pretty much anything save those wimpy little clips .__.;;; my babies have no mercy.

Anyways! Thanks for listening to my rant! Any advice is appreciated and I'll post pics of me at the con asap!

NEW- (just pretend you care T__T;;;;; )

Waaai otakon was awesome! so much, in fact, that all I have is two crappy shots to show >__< ah well. here they are.

this is for the full look with hair and whatnot (my curling iron died on me *tears* so i just did my generic "i have to look halfway cute" hair .__.;;; ) anyways, I look really squished and uncomfortable....I'm much better behind a camera than in front of one ~__~

and this other one shows more how it actually looked, but I hated my face in this, so i chopped it off...only in photoshop, I assure you. . Boo to my flat petti...where has your poof gone?

I'm pretty proud, my corset did really well. I could lace it pretty tight, and got a couple inches reduction at my waist, so I'm thinking of making an underbust one so it doesn't squish my bust-al area as well...also since I'm short, it'll work a little better... I also had a problem with the boning poking out the bottom when I laced too tight, I would have loved to go tighter, since the boning made my posture awesome-tastic...ah well, next time i'll know to cover the edges with something...anyone know how to make steel boning less pointy  Q__Q it hurts.

anyways, I had fun, and loved wearing it. I'll definitely make up excuses to wear that corset, ^__^ not that i don't dress loli-ish all the time anyway, but it was still fun to go all out.
I got a bunch of compliments and a couple pictures, even though I wasn't in an actual costume. *pleased with self* gah, I'm rambling again. I hope this post broke my lurking streak of about two years, I think...so I'll be posting needlessly from now on u__u

OH MY GOSH! I've only posted like, twice...but this is so incredibly awesome I must be the first to respond. AWESOME JOB! Please put up the other pics!!! I wanted to work on this or something else from showstudio and am in total awe of you! I LOVE YOU!!! (and I'm sure others will be gasping for air at their computer screens)
19  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Re: it takes courage...(image heavy/really long first post) on: May 05, 2005 07:38:57 PM
if you get a good pattern, i think pants are good (or it could just be my mad skillz....joking, by the way >__<). my mom told me they'd be too hard...but she also said that with the jackets... and the shirt...haha, i'm definitely not too good at listening once i decide i'm going to do something....Just get some cheap fabric and go for it. (psst. cordurouy rocks! At least at the fabric store i go to, i can get tons of scraps for $2.95 a yard! )
20  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Re: it takes courage...(image heavy/really long first post) on: May 05, 2005 05:09:18 PM
ugh, AOL is also owned by satan! grr >__< I just lost like, half my post...but i'll continue ranting here, since i'm not too great with posting yet.

I'm a little rushed, so i won't be so long-winded anymore

pink/brown striped shirt. any ideas for closure? (held together by safety pins, since button holes won't work with the fabric...how about hooks and eyes?

blue/brown cord bag for school since a different one fell apart due to unfinished seams (STUPID). check out the tie!

jeans i made last weekend out of denim. white stitching, better fit. gotta love my foot-on-desk action! ho yes!

and most recently (due to an attack of senioritis...graduation is sooooo close! Q__Q but not if i fail all my classes because of my sewing...) an experiment with the same denim from the jeans and bleach. i had soooo much fun

thanks everyone for all your time!
