12  Alice in Wonderland Complete Cast string dolls in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by maryrose710 on: September 01, 2011 06:58:28 PM
It started with a contest from #Popkes (http://popkes.deviantart.com/) group in deviantart. I came up with Alice as my entry coz the theme of that contest was disney.

Alice, my official entry for the contest

Then it gave me an idea to create the whole main characters from the movie Alice in Wonderland.

Mad Hatter

White Rabbit

Cheshire cat

Tweedledee and Tweedledum

White Queen

Red Queen

the complete casts

Then i think it would be cute to place them in a box..so here it is..it's not that really fancy... it was really hard cutting the box

They are just really cute so i can't help taking lots of pictures of them

All the faves and comments i get in deviantart has inspired me to do well in designing my string dolls.

And btw, after a week of submitting my works in the group #Popkes, they made me a contributor. I'm so touched Smiley

14  String Doll Tutorial in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by maryrose710 on: August 17, 2011 09:22:18 PM

http://a7.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/292896_2137832777680_1601957057_32066954_5260099_n.jpg

Here's a tutorial on how to make a string doll.

MATERIALS:

* scissors

* super glue

* Styrofoam

* yarn

* pins

* felt

http://img5.imageshack.us/img5/7083/stringdoll1.jpg

Credit to the one who made this first image. This is where I first learned how to make a string doll. I just followed up to step 12 coz I had a hard time following steps 13-15. I studied it and created my own version on how to make the head. Once you are done with the step 12, cut the yarn and glue the end to the body to secure.

Here are the steps on how to make the head to designing the doll.

You will need a Styrofoam. Cut a small piece. It doesn't need to be circle.

http://a6.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/298648_2137898819331_1601957057_32067012_6369078_n.jpg

Then start wrapping it with the yarn you used for the body. Make it tight.

http://a4.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/299128_2137899619351_1601957057_32067013_2542050_n.jpg

Keep on winding it with yarn until it forms into a circle. Just spread the yarn evenly so it'll be in good shape.

http://a1.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/299583_2137900419371_1601957057_32067014_1049644_n.jpg

Once it's big enough to fit into that loop you left when you created  the body, you may now insert it.

http://a5.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/298870_2137901859407_1601957057_32067016_1248980_n.jpg

http://a4.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/299114_2137902659427_1601957057_32067018_3682793_n.jpg

http://a3.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/300965_2137903979460_1601957057_32067020_8051486_n.jpg

Don't cut the string yet, you will continue to wrap it around the head to secure it to the body.

http://a7.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/293108_2137905259492_1601957057_32067022_6054994_n.jpg

http://a4.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/297133_2137905739504_1601957057_32067024_6336328_n.jpg

If you think it's already big enough then proceed to wrapping the yarn to the body.

http://a6.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/205945_2137906579525_1601957057_32067025_2801461_n.jpg

Then glue the end to secure. I used a super glue (mighty bond in particular). It's expensive but it's worth it coz it will stick fast and you will only need a small amount of it. You will need to glue the neck part so it won't move. Continue gluing the head to keep the yarn in place.

http://a2.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/298643_2137907379545_1601957057_32067027_1726695_n.jpg

So here's your finish product.

http://a7.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/262853_2137908339569_1601957057_32067029_5314029_n.jpg

http://a6.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/293190_2137909699603_1601957057_32067031_7856523_n.jpg

Now let's proceed to my favorite part - the dressing up. I usually look for pictures to serve as a guide and inspiration. This time i used Nam from my favorite movie Crazy Little Thing Called Love.

http://a4.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/228931_2137956020761_1601957057_32067072_3698976_n.jpg

Here's the doll:

http://a3.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/292701_2137910619626_1601957057_32067034_5517753_n.jpg

After dressing up, we'll now make the hair.

You will use a black yarn this time. Wrap it around your hand or you can use a cardboard. It will depend on your desired length. Because Nam's hair is short, so I'm just using my hand.

http://a5.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/292882_2137911299643_1601957057_32067035_6925938_n.jpg

Once you feel like it's thick enough, i don't usually count how many rounds i make, take it off your hand but make sure it's still in it's form.

http://a1.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/291938_2137912379670_1601957057_32067037_3233479_n.jpg

Then tie it at the center. Make it very tight.

http://a2.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/294852_2137913019686_1601957057_32067038_4371963_n.jpg

Then cut both ends.

http://a5.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/300664_2137913779705_1601957057_32067040_1476375_n.jpg

http://a1.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/292791_2137914579725_1601957057_32067042_4754707_n.jpg

Put a glue at the center then place it on top of the head.

http://a7.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/297309_2137915179740_1601957057_32067043_2175671_n.jpg

Place it in front of the string you'll use for hanging the doll.

http://a4.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/300409_2137915899758_1601957057_32067045_6180193_n.jpg

This will be your front.

http://a8.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/298788_2137916979785_1601957057_32067047_630831_n.jpg

This will be your back.

http://a1.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/205893_2137917939809_1601957057_32067049_5133798_n.jpg

You will glue the back hair first then front. You might need to cut it to your desired length then style it. And here's our doll, I copied the style of the hair of Nam in the picture above.

http://a4.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/298599_2137918939834_1601957057_32067051_4982308_n.jpg

Now we can add the eyes and the glasses to finish it. I used a pin for the eyes and glued it. For the glasses, I used felt.  Here's our finish product.

http://a8.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/296791_2137897339294_1601957057_32067011_3874689_n.jpg

It won't be complete without P'Shone.

http://a6.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/296643_2137834977735_1601957057_32066958_4829276_n.jpg

I also made an apple plush.

http://a4.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/254714_2137835617751_1601957057_32066959_2179391_n.jpg

Here are  P'Shone and Nam. I super love them

http://a8.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/296441_2137982861432_1601957057_32067085_4128498_n.jpg

Here are more pictures, with me and my string dolls. Enjoy!
