1  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / TOPping it off: all 3 on: November 22, 2011 08:41:50 PM
Made some tops awhile back-they're all some of my favorites. I wear the tanks all the time in the summer; they're super comfy & cool & cute (says I).
The pattern is Simplicity Built by Wendy (<3 those patterns) 3692.

The first is a stretchy poleyester deal. Sounds gross, I know, but it's super soft.

The green is just knit.

The giraffe one is a cotton (even tho the pattern calls for just knits...) and then a black knit yoke.

thanks for checkin' it!

3  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / a fun floral skirt (which doesn't start with "f") on: August 23, 2011 09:17:17 PM
made this a coupla whiles ago outa some thin, satiny fabric my sister gave me. i think she was making a top, because the side seams were already sewn. so i gathered the top, added a black knit waistband, and rool-hemmed the bottom. i like to wear it at my waist, and also at my hips:).
voila!

4  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / satin strapless dress: redone on: July 10, 2011 10:22:19 PM
On a rather sunny winter afternoon, I found a poofy, teal dress at a second-hand store for $3. Although presumably my size and from the 80's, it was actually too small to fully zip and made my Xhileration, a Target brand-not at all fromt he 80's. But it was only $3, so i purchased it, more as a joke-or potential project-than anything.
A month or so went by, with the dress hanging forlornly in my closet. Then, one day, a boy asked me to go to the Winter Formal dance at our high school. It wasn't very ahead of time, so i was in need of a dress. Luckily, i had a dress, and had resently purchased the materials-a metal zipper, bias tape, black tulle- needed to make it...fit.
So i ripped out the exisiting zipper and sewed on bias tape-for added strength-then reinstalled my new zipper, which added the .5-1" extra i needed. Then i cut off the old, cheap exsisting tulle of the dress and sewed on the new tulle(which i sadly cut a bit shorter than i wished i had).

The exposed zipper on the back:

Detailing of the front:

The back of the dress:

And the final dress:

All in all, i'm very pleased with the results-though i wish the dress would stay up a bit better.
ps-my date and i had a very enjoyable time at the dance.
Thanks for seeing! Any feedback is well-liked.

some dresses I've sewed in the past year or so from: Simplicity 2798
i quite liked this pattern, but it called for much more fabric than was actually necessary. i heart the pockets, though the sleeves were not the best to make, but that is on account of my not following directions very well.

this is the first one. mad w/ black satin, patterned cotton. worn for a wonderful Christmas.

second one. summer "frock". not the best to wear for biking, though still loved.

thanks! hope you enjoy.
