2  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Looking for a SUPER bacon recipe on: August 30, 2012 04:52:07 AM
Sat we are going to a bacon party ... I'm looking for something quick to make that is really good, must contain bacon.
I would prefer it be something that can be served at room temp & not need be heated at the party.

I was thinking maybe slicing strips of bacon & turkey bacon in half length wise and wrapping the strips around small bundles of asparagus & green beans, sprinkling with salt & pepper & baking. Making a bacon ranch dressing for dipping.
How does that sound?
Do you think they would be ok room temp?

Another idea was do do like a bacon candy. Making a basic glaze (like a glazed donut glaze) with milk, powdered sugar a dash of vanilla & maybe a dash of maple extract?  Mix the glaze with very crispy baked bacon, rough chopped with chopped pecans & dropping in little bite size piles to dry?
How does that sound?

Any other suggestions?

Do I need to dry it first?  or do anything so it won't mold or get weird?
5  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / Sharing a grad gift idea on: July 26, 2011 03:56:20 PM
My step daughters best friend just graduated from HS, she will be dorm-ing next year.
We got her a smallish rolling suitcase (got it back before Easter at Kohl's for $16 with sale & coupon.) I made her a couple luggage tags also embroidered 3 pillowcases and a fleece throw. We are filling out the rest of the suitcase with munchies & stuff (microwave popcorn, ramen noodles, vitamin c drop)
6  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Artist Trading Cards (ATCs) / Pink & Black set MORE pics, same process, dif cards on: March 19, 2011 02:19:59 PM
this is my first time posting pics, hope this works.
This is also my fist try at ATC's

I CAN NOT draw, but I color like a pro!!   Cheesy  So this is something I tried today.
I used Bic Mark-It pens
Strathmore 300 Series 140# Watercolor Paper (bought them cut into ACEO ATC 2.5 x 3.5 cards)
A computer print out of a stained glass template
water color pencil

Step 1 ~ Lightly color cards with a pink water color pencil, then go over them with a wet paint brush. Let them dry (or dry with a hair dryer)

Step 2 ~ Tape cards to BACK of a coloring sheet. This one is a stained glass template. I used EMT paper tape, similar to masking tape & I had it on hand.

Step 3 ~ Color, color, color  I used Bic Mark-It pens. (Petal Pink , Fandango Pink , Dessert Rose , Cloud 9 Gray  and Tuxedo Black ~ I LOVE the color names)

Step 4~ keep coloring
You want to go over the colors a couple times. You want a good bleed through.

Step 5 ~ Flip over and carefully remove the tape.

Step 6 ~
Cards after tape is removed

Step 7 ~ All framed up!!

Any comments, criticisms, suggestions welcome!!

Thanks for looking!!

7  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Suggestions for stuffing pasta shells?? on: February 27, 2011 08:40:25 AM
I know everyone has a favorite way to make Italian style shells.... any other ideas?

One of my favorite meals is TexMex stuffed shells
Boil large pasta shells, or manicotti (i think the shells are easier to fill) till very al dente
mix 1 large jar of salsa with roasted corn with a couple pinches of chili powder  and shredded cooked chicken, beef or pork. simmer for a few mins.
shred some pepper jack cheese also dice some extra sharp cheddar (or use a piece of a twisted cheese stick)
fill shells with salsa mixture & a small piece of cheddar. lay shells open side up in baking dish pour more salsa over top & sprinkle with pepper jack
bake @ 350 till warm & bubbly

I've also made shells, rinsed & cooled them. Fill with a bit of shredded lettuce & use a melon baller to add scoops of chicken or tuna salad. if you are going to serve this way make sure you salt cooking water.

Any other suggestions for what to stuff shells with?
