191  Re: ONGOING ATC SWAP - MAY 2012 in The Swap Gallery by Mountains and Clouds on: May 25, 2012 07:15:16 PM
Yay!  I have some more fun ATCs to show off!!

From Zeivin, for my Hawai`ian Language and folklore theme:

I love it!  She also sent a letter referencing the White Dog legends surrounding the islands and Pele, the fire goddess.  This card is in reference to the white dog appearing near the observatory on the summit of Mauna Loa (the ever flowing volcano on Big Island) a week before an eruption.

Also, she sent an extra that she had made and decided it wasn't up to her standards (but I think it's fantastic!)

I also received from Fancybutch for "moon on a string:"

It's Astro-Moon on a String!  Awesome!

She also sent some extras and it was in a super cute card!

And then, I received an awesome card from Deathbeforedishes for the same theme:

It's all sewn!  Way cool!  (and I LOVE the star in her pocket!!)

Wow, I feel so spoiled with the cards I've gotten in the mail this month!  You guys all rock!  Thank you!

192  Paper doll prints! in Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General by Mountains and Clouds on: May 23, 2012 05:55:46 PM
Hi everyone!
Lately, I have been inspired by Pilarfarmer, from whom I received an ATC with a tiny paper doll on it.  I couldn't leave the idea of paper dolls, and just had to get into them and spend some time with the idea.

I actually decided to make paper doll prints, so that I could reproduce them, and maybe eventually play around with the idea of mixing and matching the different parts!

I then went ahead and carved a ballerina doll stamp:

I admit, I am not sure of the measurements, and just kind of eyeballed it, so I apologize if the proportions are off!  Undecided

The best part is that you can make many many dolls from one piece of cardstock, and try different color combinations and media!

After testing this print the first time, I ended up carving new arm segments.... these were weird and tiny!

Here are some dancing ballerinas!

For the joints, I couldn't find brads big enough, and ended up using jewelry pins (and bending them into a little loop on the back).   I have been informed by Pilarfarmer, though, that scrapbooks.com has micro brads which are a good size!  (At least for ATC sized paper dolls! YAY!)

Then, I also carved a Harlequin/Pierrot character:

And now, here are just a few action shots:

Thank you for looking!  These have been a lot of fun so far!

Alright!  Here are the fabulous cards I have received lately!!

from Bunny1Kenobi for artist's choice:

It's adorable!  Yay spring!

And from Deathbeforedishes for my "local coffee shop" theme:

Her local shop is called "The Cup."  Did you take these pictures, deathbeforedishes?

From witchhippie, for "moon on a string:"

It's a kite!

And a very similar one from Geekgirl1000100 (did you guys meet up? Tongue ):

Sorry the picture doesn't show it, but it has a cool painted background, and sparkly glittery stars!

GeekGirl1000100 also sent an extra for my coffee shop theme:

She used bits from the starbucks logo!

Yay!  Thanks everyone, for the awesome cards!!

Yay, what a fun Disney trip!

Aurora and I spent some time at a nearby Tea Garden yesterday.  She liked watching the koi swim in the stream.

We also found a sala (pavillion) from Thailand!

It was a peaceful afternoon!

I have some lovely cards from Susie Apple!

First, for "moon on a string:"

Sorry there's a glare-- it's so shiny!   I love all the media used.... drawings, and real string too!

She also sent an awesome extra for my juggling theme:

Juggling buttons!  I love it!

Thanks so much, Susie Apple!

Kitten Wrangler, I totally understand about stamp-carving.... I go through spells where I make a bunch of them, and my husband ends up finding them around the house....

Also, just because I can't resist, another teaser shot:

198  Just a thought, on a hoop. in Needlework: Completed Projects by Mountains and Clouds on: May 13, 2012 11:45:08 AM
Hi all!  I will start by saying that I have not done much embroidery, but just recently have decided to do a few smallish embroidery pieces (ATCs, etc), and it probably goes without saying that I do not have fantastic technique!  (and can't, for the life of me, get myself to follow a pattern of any sort!)

Anyway, I have looked here a little bit and see a lot of french knots... 'Those look like fun!' I thought to myself...

With the recent *ahem* public discourse (?) in the US regarding issues, I decided to use a quote which, I think, is very meaningful to me at this time (although I usually stay away from quotes  Lips sealed ).  I just wanted to make something to use as a reminder (to myself included) that we're all people, and even though someone has opinions we may not be able to understand, they are still a person too!

So sorry to ramble... here's my little hoop....

And just a closer shot:

Thank you for looking, and I would love C&C as well!

199  Hawai`ian Goddess PELE Mask in Completed Projects by Mountains and Clouds on: May 08, 2012 08:14:01 PM
I made this mask for the Rock Paper Scissors challenge, but I thought I'd post it here too!

It's paper mache on a plaster base (which I molded on my face, so it fits just right!).  There are lava rocks (from my backyard) in the array of beads and various other found items.

I made this with Pele in mind.  Pele is the Hawai`ian goddess of fire and volcanoes (most currently probably residing over Kilauea as she erupts on the Big Island).

Thanks for looking!
