151  Re: Ongoing ATC Swap - February 2013 GALLERY! in The Swap Gallery by Mountains and Clouds on: March 01, 2013 08:33:25 AM
Ohmygoodness I somehow missed the entire gallery this month.  I've been living with only my computer as a phone, so I'll blame it on that ( but now I see 11 pages of wonderful I'm going to have to go catch up on!)
Anyway, here are the amazing yoga cards I received from Paper Beau and have been trying to post for a while!

She also sent some amazing extras, but I will post them later since my phone will just try to keep reposting the same pic at the moment.

Anuenue made it back home after a long journey of being invisible to the postal service!

I'm going to start off by apologizing to everybody for the quality of the pictures... we've been super busy with family in town and we're leaving the day they leave to go to the mainland for a family funeral, so there will be no other time (foreseeable) in the near future.  Right now, it's dark and everyone else is asleep, but we're headed off before sunrise, so I'm not going to have a chance to use better light.... Also, apologies for the backdrop, everything is in disarray because husby and dad are also trying to build a shelf, and the only open space right now is in front of where the shelf will be.  At least that pile of wood is good for something!

Here's Anuenue with all her stuff!

Wow, she brought a lot of fun goodies back!  So many playbills and brouchures, an awesome calendar from NASA, Japanese candy, Presidential playing cards, bandages from the National Gallery of Art, a bag from Baltimore, a magnet from California....

She brought some fall (a pumpkin and some wonderful fabric leaves!), because we don't have autumn here in Hawai`i.
,

I absolutely love these lanticulars that Ptarmic Wumpus sent!
There are 2 from a project she's working on at NASA, and one from the National Gallery of Art!  Sadly, these are more exciting in real life than in photographs.....

Also, she brought this delightful alpaca ornament from the Alpaca Festival!  Squee!

And then, her lovely scrapbook with pictures from all across the mainland!  (she not only visited Maryland and D. C., she visited California, New Mexico, and Atlanta (even if by accident) too!  (Am I missing any places?)

Wow, thanks, Ptarmic Wumpus!!  It looks like Anuenue really enjoyed her trip!

Holy crapola, I somehow missed about 17 pages of this gallery!  So many amazing artists in here!!!  I remember (at least) two things I which to comment:

CONGRATULATIONS, JILLYBEANS!

Also, it's been far too long since I've jumped off a cliff... Now I must find a way to fit that into my schedule. Thanks for the reminder and inspiration, Blupaisan!

Oh yeah, I also received a great card from Blupaisan for my "things that grow" theme:

Her note read, "Yartsa Gunbu is a combo of moth larva (caterpillar) and parasite fungus.  The fungus infects the larvae and grows. One fungus is worth like $100!"

Needless to say, I have just spent an inordinate amount of time reading things such as Wikipedia and National Geographic reading up on these guys!  They're oogy and awesome!
Thanks, Blu!

I just got an awesome card from Susie Apple for my "world created inside your mind" theme.  She also sent a fantastic extra, which I'm assuming is inspired by my user name!

I think they're both wonderful!  What a fun world!

Ehermehrgerd... Oops, I totally forgot to bookmark the gallery! (Big surprise, it only happens pretty much every month Tongue)  so many amazing cards so far, I can't pick favorites... But holy moly, blupaisan, you're back in full swing with bunches of fabulousness!  And wow, you guys all have crazy amazing drawing skillz.

Well, I have some more awesome to add... First from Oath Keeper for my "world inside your mind" theme:

She explained how her mind is full of cute adorable things, like cartoons and plushies, amongst (ahem) other things. Wink it's called "Destruction."

And next, from SunnyDawn, for "moon on a string."  I'm going to say it again, you guys never cease to amaze me with all the diverse ideas you've come up with for this theme!

"Moon Tea!"  How absolutely lovely!

Thank you so much, ladies!  It's great to be back in the swap!

160  Feathered skeleton bird in Polymer Clay: Completed Projects by Mountains and Clouds on: January 15, 2013 10:37:38 PM
I'm not sure if this qualifies for this category, since there's technically no pottery or polymer clay in this project... However, it's kind of clay, and I'm not sure where else to put it, so.....

Here's what I made!

My partner in the Mini 12 Days of Christmas swap was redstar13, and she had pinned a skeleton bird with feathers on one of her pinterest boards.  I specifically didn't go back and look at it between being inspired and making the finished product.  I did not want to be tempted to make it the same.... Later, upon going back to look at the original bird, I realized it was made by another craftster, noooitaremybirthday, and was posted on her blog.

Needless to say, upon going back and looking at Noo's bird, I'm glad mine ended up being very different from, although clearly inspired by, hers.

I ended up making this bird from Crayola Model Magic Clay.  I like it because it's lightweight and smooth.  And it air dries.  It's a little bit finnicky to work with because it's a bit spongy.   I made the legs with thick black wire, and painted the body with acrylic craft paint.  (depending on the brand, some don't work as well on the model magic, so test first if you're going to try and paint it!)  I stuck the feathers in his butt after he was dry, and reinforced with glue.

Thanks for looking!
