112  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Mystery Critter Idea--THIS IS NOW OPEN FOR SIGN -UPS on: September 08, 2011 05:27:32 AM

So, I was working in my sewing room the other day when these little critters wandered past my window.  "How strange!" I thought. "They don't seem to have any details or faces!  What kind of critters are they?" I went outside to take a closer look.  They followed me inside and have been hanging around for days now.  I think they want me to make them look normal--but I hardly know where to begin...so I'm hoping a bunch of you crafters can help me out.  Let's do a swap where everyone crafts their own version of these critters, filling in the missing faces and adding any details you want; then I will have a better idea what to do to these three.

I've put the pattern on my blog (http://lesliesartandsew.blogspot.com/2011/09/mystery-critters.html), and I intend to add a quick tutorial for anyone who might be new to stuffie sewing.  There are a million things you could do to customize these little critters for your partner--cute, creepy, sweet, scary, WHATEVER!  Susanab and I want to see what you can do!  Will you craft with us?  Please say yes! Sign-ups will start next week--yay!

The GALLERY is HERE!

Whoever said "Cute doesn't need a reason" sure knew what she was talking about!  Case in point:  these CUTE little monsters!  The pattern is by Ellen Luckett Baker and it's FREE over at The Long Thread.  Ellen calls it a Monster Tooth Pillow, and it was created for children waiting for the Tooth Fairy.  But couldn't people who aren't losing teeth (I hope!) have a few of these monsters too?  Of course we could!  Because cute doesn't need a reason!  We call them "Hungry Monsters" because the mouth is a pocket.  Cute, no?

Wouldn't one of these be a great gift for your friends (both young and old) at Halloween, with some candy in the mouth?  And a group of them would look awesome any time of year, just sitting around on your sofa!  And who says they have to be only 6" tall?  Not me!  They could be any size, any fabric...and don't get me started on embellishments...!!   Just thinking of what you crafty swappers will do with this pattern makes my mind race.  I can't wait to see them all!

The hungry monster is easy to make, so if you have a sewing machine, you CAN do it! If you want to see step-by step directions with pictures, please click on this link.  Come on, hurry up, fill out the questionnaire!!

Whoever said "Cute doesn't need a reason" sure knew what she was talking about!  Case in point:  these CUTE little monsters!  The pattern is by Ellen Luckett Baker and it's FREE over at The Long Thread (http://thelongthread.com/?s=monster+tooth+pillow).

We want to start sign-ups for this swap in just a couple of days.  You will have the option of one or two partners, and you will make a small crafted item to send along too.  There will be a two-week crafting period.

The hungry monster is easy to make, so if you have a sewing machine, you CAN do it!  Are you in??
116  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Crafter's Apron Swap; send-outs 8/30/11 on: August 08, 2011 04:54:45 AM

GALLERY OF APRONS!

Hey all you crafty sewists, what’s in your pocket?  Scissors, tape measure, pencil, notepad, a snack—whatever you need when you’re busy crafting—will be close at hand when you are wearing this awesome crafter’s apron!

The body of the apron is made from either home-decor-weight fabric or lightweight canvas, with quilting cotton fabric for the five pockets.  I can imagine a lot of different interpretations of this pattern—this one relies on the fun fabrics for its appeal, but it could be embellished with embroidery, paint, applique, decorative trims...you get the idea.

The original tutorial for this apron is here:  Creative Little Daisy

I made my own tutorial; I changed the way the pockets are made.  It can be found here: Leslie's Art and Sew

In addition to crafting an apron to suit your partner’s  tastes,  you will also make one small item for your partner (if it fits into one of the apron's pockets, all the better!)

This apron is easy to make and will take you less than 2 hours.  Anyone with a sewing machine and an iron should be able to make one.  I think it would be a great holiday gift—after you have made one for this swap, you will be experienced enough to whip up a few more in no time!

We would love to have you join this swap!  Sign-ups will close on Monday, Aug. 15th.  Then you will have about 2 weeks to craft, with send-outs on Tuesday, August 30th.  It took me a little over an hour to make the apron in the picture, but I had everything in my sewing room already--I didn't spend any time shopping for just the right fabrics!  And of course there is the additional one small item that you send with the apron that will take some time.  Two weeks should be plenty.

Communication is vital!  Please post to the thread at least once a week; we don’t want to have to write “poor communication” in your feedback when the swap is over.  Be sure to pm your group organizer and your partner when you send and receive.

Susanab and I (Leslieshappyheart) are coorganizing this swap.  My name comes first because I have more time to devote to Craftster, but she is the brains behind this team!  Please pm both of us when signing up.

117  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Plush un-monsters on: August 02, 2011 04:57:44 AM

I recently made these two cuties for the Quick Plush Monster Swap.  We all started with the same pattern, found here.  Since neither one looks at all monsterous, I'm calling them "un-monsters"!  Both are made of fleece, but cotton fabric works well too.

It's amazing how many different directions you can go with the same pattern!  I encourage anyone looking for a quick gift for a child to try it.  The pattern is very simple and sews up quickly.  You can find the gallery of our quick monsters HERE, to give you further inspiration.
118  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / What's In Your Pocket? (Crafter's Apron Swap Idea) on: August 01, 2011 04:56:07 AM

Hey all you crafty sewists, take a look at this awesome crafter’s apron that I made!  What crafter couldn't use one of these?  My friend susanab and I have been asking ourselves that question, and since the answer is "no crafter"--we knew we had to organize an apron swap!

The body of the apron is made from either home-decor-weight fabric or lightweight canvas, with quilting cotton fabric for the five pockets.  I can imagine a lot of different interpretations of this pattern—this one relies on the fun fabrics for its appeal, but they could be embellished with embroidery, paint, applique, decorative trims...you get the idea.

Sign-ups will start August 8th. We will be crafting an apron to suit our partners' tastes, plus one small item (if it fits into one of the apron's pockets, all the better!)

The original tutorial for this apron is here: Creative Little Daisy

I made my own tutorial; it is a little simpler than Creative Little Daisy’s (I think!).  It can be found here: Leslie's Art and Sew

This apron is easy to make and will take you less than 2 hours.  Anyone with a sewing machine and an iron should be able to make one.  I think it would be a great holiday gift—shouldn’t you jump into this swap and learn to make this apron?  Consider this your personal invitation!
119  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Quick Plush Monster Swap Sign ups now closed; send out August 3 2011 on: July 24, 2011 12:02:10 PM

THE GALLERY IS HERE

Quick!  Let’s make this cute monster plush!  Go to http://www.dailyplush.com/tutorials/how-to-sew-a-plush-monster  to download the pattern and tutorial.  This may be the fastest swap you ever saw…sign-ups will end on Wednesday evening (July 27th) at 6pm.  You will have one week to craft, send outs on August 3rd.  What do you think?  Can you keep up with me and susanab? Throw caution to the wind--sign up!

It will be "sender's choice" (with inspiration from your partner's wists) as far as color, material, etc., so you don't have to worry that you don't have the perfect fabric on hand to suit your partner.  Make it cute, have fun, it's summer, let's do this thing!

Swap Details:
You will send one Daily Plush Monster using the pattern at the link above, to one partner.  Jazz it up any way you want to!  There were a ton of great ideas in our recent Monster Ninni swap, you might want to look at the gallery HERE. Take a look at your partner’s questionnaire, and her Wists or Pinterests, but don’t make yourself crazy trying to match her interests—this is SENDER’S CHOICE, so if you don’t have the perfect fabric or embellishments, that’s okay!  Make the monster your way.

You will have just one week to craft your monster.  Send-outs are August 3, 2011.  I always tell my kids, the best way to avoid being late is to be early!  So send early if you can, or on time, but don’t be late!

120  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Quick Plush Monster Idea Thread on: July 24, 2011 06:05:36 AM

This swap is now open for sign-ups:  http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=386648.0
Quick!  Let’s make this cute monster plush to swap! The swap will start later today!!

It will be "sender's choice" (with inspiration from your partner's wists) as far as color, pattern, etc., so you don't have to worry that you don't have the perfect fabric on hand to suit your partner.  Make it cute, have fun, it's summer, let's do this thing!
