1  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Painting with q-tips....? on: July 21, 2011 10:05:43 PM
So I know this sounds weird, but I painted this (well just the background) with q-tips. I had taken a class revolving around teaching art to students in elementary school, and this was one technique we used, and I loved it! I feel like it gives a lot of control, and it's easy to cover up mistakes. I hand painted the words freehand. These are now up as a set in my new apartment. I hope you like them!

2  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / Repainted Ikea Dresser on: July 21, 2011 09:59:17 PM
These dressers belonged to my boyfriend, but he no longer needed them, so I decided to re-paint them and use them for myself in my apartment. The drawer fronts were a light/blonde wood finish, but I decided to make it match the comforter I have.

I typically have a blue cloth over the top that matches the teal-ish drawer, but I had packed it as I was preparing to move (hence the full trash can and randomly placed lamp). Also, the red-ish looking drawer is actually closer to magenta. I love having it in my room; it really brightens things up!

3  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / First time using oil pastels = this! on: July 21, 2011 09:53:45 PM
So I had dabbled with oil pastels as a child, but I saw a sorority sister working on a project with some earlier this year and I was AMAZED at what she was doing with them! So, naturally, I HAD to try it for myself. I can't say they turned out as amazing as her art, but I am still proud of them nonetheless! Unfortunately, the colors didn't photograph perfectly, but hopefully you get the idea. Smiley

4  HOME SWEET HOME / Exterior Decorating / Yard Art / Gardening: Completed Projects / First time gardening! (Pic Heavy) on: July 21, 2011 09:47:20 PM
So these pictures only show some of the plants that I helped plant in my Mom's front yard for Mother's Day. I had NEVER planted anything before this, and after finishing, I am realizing I LOVE gardening! So here are just a few parts of my mom's front yard.

This shows a lot of what we planted in the ground: eridgeron (sp?), short grasses, wallflower, dahlia, calla lilies, fountain grass, and hawthorn bushes (in the back), plus a bird bath! We also have geraniums, more hawthorn bushes, day lilies, thyme, rosemary, impatiens, and alyssum not pictured.

We also planted a Japanese maple. I love the color of the leaves.

Now onto the potted plants:

Impatiens!

Marigolds and lobelia!

Sweet 100 cherry tomatoes!

Snap Peas!

Habanero Peppers!

Mint!

And my favorite pot so far: basil, oregano, chives, and parsley! I have been using these herbs like CRAZY and they just keep growing more and more and more!

After doing all of this, I am planning on starting my own potted garden in my new apartment! I am so excited!

5  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Bread Making! on: July 08, 2011 02:13:42 AM
One of my latest hobbies is cooking with as many fresh and basic ingredients as possible. I decided I HAD to try making bread, and my first two attempts were successful! Both recipes were found in a general search on allrecipes.com, and if anyone is interested, I can track down the link to them. Smiley First I made 3 loaves of plain wheat bread. Even my super picky boyfriend loved it!

The second experiment was a baguette recipe. I adapted it and threw in some fresh rosemary and thyme from my garden, and this was the en result:

It turned out so tasty! I will be making bruschetta with that tomorrow!
If anyone has any tips, I would LOVE to hear them! This is a completely new experiment for me, and any help is appreciated!

6  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Gardening "Apron" on: July 08, 2011 02:06:51 AM
I made this gardening "apron" for my Mom for Mother's Day. I use quotes because it is an old pair of jeans that I cut up and did minimal sewing to turn it into an apron. She loves having the pockets on the front!

^^ My beautiful Mother modeling her gift. :-)
I made this for her because, later that day, we planted an ENTIRE GARDEN in her front yard (although my brother and myself did most of the work). One thing we planted were day lilies, and I couldn't pass up the opportunity to post a picture of them!

7  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects / Tie-Dye onesie on: July 08, 2011 02:02:53 AM
This isn't anything too impressive, but I was really happy with how it turned out! At a baby shower for my soon-arriving niece, everyone decorated onesies, and this was one that I made (although I couldn't contain myself from making 5 more!)

I just free-handed with the tie-dye in the bottles and let it dry flat.

8  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Completed Graduation Cap on: July 08, 2011 02:00:16 AM
I made this cap for my graduation from Sacramento State, and it turned out to be a big hit within my major! I hope you like it!
9  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Weddings and Bridal Showers / Wedding Candy topiary tree on: July 08, 2011 01:58:22 AM
I made these dum dum topiaries for my Little Sister from my sorority for her wedding. She had a candy bar with cute little take-out boxes as favors, and I like to think that the topiaries completed the look.  Smiley

A look at the table (I'm the farthest left, with my other two Little Sisters bombing my picture)
10  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Baby Booties and Hat on: July 06, 2011 12:09:33 PM
Nothing too huge, but I was so proud of these booties when I finished them! I made them for my brother's soon-arriving daughter.
